Washington vs Nebraska College Football Preview
Washington Huskies Betting Preview
Washington arrives in Lincoln off a bye week and with a quarterback question hanging over the game. Demond Williams Jr., who had started 33 straight games before breaking a rib just before halftime of a 41-24 loss to Iowa on October 9, is still working his way back, and coach Jedd Fisch has said the decision will be made at game time.
If Williams can't go, Washington can still lean on Elijah Brown, the Stanford transfer who stepped in at Purdue and completed 21 of 27 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-26 win, the Huskies' first Big Ten victory of the season. The Huskies put up 488 yards in that game despite five turnovers, with Trey Cooley adding 113 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries.
The identity of this offense is the passing game. Washington throws for 263.6 yards a game, 26th nationally, while its run game is among the worst in the country at 104.0 yards a game, and it converts only 33.3% of its third downs.
That makes for a boom-or-bust profile, with scoring coming in bunches when the pass game is clicking and drives ending quickly when it isn't. The Huskies average 27.9 points a game and allow 22.7, with a defense that is strong on third down (31.1% allowed, 18th) but gives up 131.1 yards a game on the ground.
Ryan Walters is the defensive coordinator, with linebacker Jacob Manu and Ohio State transfer Logan George among the pieces to watch. Washington's last two games totaled 65 and 64 points.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview
Nebraska is frustrated, but rested. The Cornhuskers have lost two straight in the cruelest way possible, 20-17 at home to Indiana after leading 17-6 with 12 minutes left, and 17-14 at Oregon after leading 14-6 in the fourth quarter, when former Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola led the Ducks' comeback.
Matt Rhule has called both losses self-inflicted, and the bye gave his team time to work on the late-game lapses. They come home, where they are 4-1, for the second annual Blackout game against a team they haven't played since 2011.
When Nebraska has the ball, it is a good offense. The Huskers average 35.6 points and 430.3 yards a game, with a run game that ranks around 30th nationally at 194.4 yards a game and a 50% third-down conversion rate that is 15th. Anthony Colandrea has completed 62.6% of his passes for 1,569 yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions, and he has added 334 rushing yards and four scores, so Washington has to defend him on the ground as well as through the air.
The backfield is banged up, with freshman Jamal Rule hurt again at Oregon and absent from Wednesday's availability report, Isaiah Mozee probable, and offensive line depth thin enough that Nebraska is closer to rotating six or seven linemen than eight.
The defense is the other half of the story. It ranks ninth nationally in total defense at 271.3 yards a game, 14th in points allowed at 15.4, and first in third-down conversion percentage at 19.3%.

Washington vs Nebraska Pick, Betting Analysis
The case for the over starts with a simple blend of the two teams' numbers. Nebraska scores 35.6 points a game against a Washington defense allowing 22.7, which averages out to about 29 points, and Washington scores 27.9 against a Nebraska defense allowing 15.4, which averages out to about 22.
Add them together, and you get roughly 51 points, right on top of the 50.5 total. That is without accounting for the matchups that favor scoring: Nebraska's ground game, which is 30th nationally, faces a Washington defense that allows 131 yards a game on the ground, and Washington's pass offense, the 26th best in the country, has already seen Brown throw for 302 yards this season.
Washington's recent games point the same way. The Huskies have been in shootouts in each of their last two games, 65 combined points against Iowa and 64 against Purdue, and they put up 488 yards against the Boilermakers while turning the ball over five times, which also means the Nebraska offense could start drives in good field position.
Nebraska's offense has scored just 14 third-quarter points across its last six games combined, which leaves room for improvement, and both teams are coming off bye weeks.
Take the over.
Pick: Over 50.5 (-108, FanDuel)
