West Virginia vs UCF Pick
This game activated one of our PRO betting systems, powered by Evan Abrams:
In regular-season college football conference play, teams from the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, and Big East that are on multi-game road losing streaks are often undervalued by the market.
Oddsmakers and bettors can overreact to recent struggles, especially when those losses come away from home.
Yet in familiar conference environments, motivation, matchup advantages, and the urgency to stop the skid often lead to stronger-than-expected performances.
With totals set in a moderate range, these games are less likely to become high-variance shootouts, allowing disciplined road teams to keep contests close and cover inflated lines.
The Mountaineers might be undervalued by the market after three straight losses against solid Big 12 teams in BYU, Utah and Kansas.
While I think Tayven Jackson is a good quarterback, UCF can't be that good. After picking up underwhelming wins against Jacksonville State, North Carolina and Kansas State, the Knights have dropped back-to-back games against Kansas and Cincinnati after scoring a combined 31 points.
From a schematic perspective, Rich Rodriguez's offenses love to run the rock, ranking 10th nationally in rush rate (62.7%). That should work against UCF's front seven, which ranks 114th in EPA per Rush allowed.
If the Mountaineers can run the football, they should be able to hang around within a touchdown for 60 minutes.
Pick: West Virginia +7.5 (-110, bet365)
