Western Michigan vs Eastern Michigan College Football Betting Preview

Western Michigan Broncos Betting Preview: Comeback Kids
Western Michigan has been one of the elite stories at the G5 level this season. The Broncos come into this matchup with Eastern Michigan alone atop the MAC standings and can clinch a spot in the conference title game with a win.
The defense has been the calling card for WMU this season, as the Broncos rank second in the MAC in total defense, passing defense and points per game allowed.
The Broncos are riding high off a comeback win against Northern Illinois last week, where a 13-0 deficit turned into a 35-13 lead as WMU erased all doubt of an upset. I expect the defense to be locked in here.
Offensively, the Broncos aren't going to wow you with creativity or zest, but they're efficient on the ground. Quarterback Broc Lowry also manages the game well.
Lowry has completed 64% of his pass attempts with seven touchdowns on the season while also leading the team with 783 rushing yards.
He routinely makes critical plays with his legs and adds a unique element to a solid rushing attack that's averaging 181 yards per game.
Eastern Michigan Eagles Betting Preview: Season of Missed Opportunities
Eastern Michigan is concluding a season full of “what ifs,” and despite winning back-to-back games the last couple of weeks, will not be eligible for a bowl game.
The Eagles had numerous occasions where they blew leads in the fourth quarter, missed big-play opportunities and lost to a bad FCS team at home as 26.5-point favorites in September.
This season will go down as a disappointment, but the offense has been a bright spot for EMU this season.
Quarterback Noah Kim has thrown for 2,490 yards with 16 passing touchdowns, and Dontae McMillan is closing in on 1,000 yards rushing. Injuries at the receiver position have inhibited what has actually been a potent MAC offense this year.
The problem with EMU and what has held it back this season has been the ineffectiveness of its defense. EMU is giving up 419 yards per game and 6.3 yards per play this season while surrendering 30 points per game on average.
The defense has struggled to get off the field on third down, allowing 47% of attempts to be converted successfully. The Eagles' stop unit has also been defending the red zone a ton this year.
WMU isn't a strong offensive opponent, but I expect the Eagles to struggle in this one.

Western Michigan vs Eastern Michigan Pick, Betting Analysis
There's so much on the line for Western Michigan in this game. A win will send the Broncos to Detroit, where they will play in the conference championship game. They would have also swept Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan to win the Michigan MAC title, which is very important to these three programs.
I'm going to lay the -7.5 with WMU on Tuesday night.
This Western Michigan defense is playing incredible football, and it has had tremendous success defending mobile quarterbacks this season.
EMU likes to use Kim in the run game. While he is mobile, WMU completely shut down Ball State’s Kiael Kelly and Ohio’s Parker Navarro earlier this season. WMU maintains rush lane integrity well and doesn't get beat on the weak side, which really aids it in preventing big plays.
The Broncos rank 32nd nationally in Rushing Success Rate allowed and 38th in Passing Success Rate allowed. This defense has allowed just 3.5 yards per carry this season, and the front seven is excellent at generating Havoc.
In fact, WMU has registered 33 sacks and 65 tackles for loss this season. This unit should find success against EMU here.
On the other side, Eastern Michigan has a weak defensive front that struggles to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks or stop the run. EMU ranks 132nd nationally in Havoc and 122nd in rush explosives allowed.
Western Michigan is going to line up and run the football here, and I don’t think EMU is equipped to stop it. Jalen Buckley should have a big game for WMU on the ground, and the Broncos should rack up chunk plays with regularity.
I expect WMU to sustain drives in the second half and lean on the EMU defensive line in the late stages.
The Broncos have a major special teams advantage here, grading out with the fourth-strongest special teams unit in the MAC. Surprisingly and uncharacteristically, the Eagles come in as the worst special teams group in the conference.
Western Michigan is the stronger team and should win this game and cover. Eastern Michigan will play hard in a rivalry game on Senior Night, but it's significantly outclassed here.
WMU punches its ticket to the MAC title game and brings the Michigan MAC trophy back to Kalamazoo. Lay it.
Pick: Western Michigan -7.5
