Yesterday, The Action Network’s Mark Gallant brought news of a couple preseason totals getting hit by sharp action. Both were sub-40 numbers, and both were drawing pros to the under.
Tonight’s sharpest play looks a bit different.
Chicago Bears @ New York Giants
7:30 p.m. ET | NFL Network
- Spread: Giants -2
- Total: 42
The Bears-Giants total opened at 41.5, and whether it’s because of a lack of faith in Daniel Jones repeating his impressive debut in Week 1, or the fact that the Bears are expected to rest their starters once again, the public has been all over the under since the number was released.
The Action Network’s data has 68% of bettors on the under as of Friday morning, making this the only of tonight’s three matchups drawing a majority to the under.
Despite that, the total has risen from 41.5 to 42 (and even 42.5 in a few spots).
As you could’ve probably guessed, that move has come as a result of sharp bettors playing the over.
Sports Insights Bet Signals, which track and record occurrences of professional action in the betting market, have triggered two steam moves on the over at the opening number, convincing oddsmakers that their listed total was too low.
On top of the steam, the over has also generated a significantly higher percentage of money than bets.
The 32% of bettors on the over have accounted for 47% of actual dollars being wagered on the total, and since sharps are generally betting more than casual bettors, we’ve got yet another indication of wiseguy activity.
Sharp angle: Over (moved from 41.5 to 42)
