The Eagles turned to a pass-heavy approach against the Broncos last week, and while it was successful in terms of yardage, I expect them to revert back to a ground-based attack against a Giants defense that cannot stop the run.

New York allows 5.6 yards per rush to opposing running backs and ranks 28th in success rate. Saquon Barkley should have his best game of the season given the matchup and potential game script.

When Jalen Hurts does drop back to pass, he is going to face a vanilla and predictable Giants scheme that relies heavily on man coverage. A.J. Brown has historically dominated when facing man coverage, as has his quarterback — Hurts has a 125.0 passer rating this season versus man defense.

Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was hindered by turnovers in his first career road start at New Orleans, something he cannot afford against an Eagles offense that will limit the total number of possessions on Thursday night.

Philadelphia hasn’t been elite defensively through five games but still ranks ninth in DVOA.

The Giants are coming off of a game where they mustered just 4.8 yards per play against the 29th-ranked Saints defense, according to DVOA. That was actually an improvement from the 3.6 yards per play they averaged the week prior in their only win on the season over the Chargers.

I don’t usually back road favorites inside of the division, but with the Eagles coming off a rare losing effort, I expect a focused and measured approach that results in a double-digit margin of victory.

Pick: Eagles -7.5 (+100)

Over 40.5 (-105)

Given the circumstances around this game – a primetime game on a short week featuring divisional rivals – I really wanted to be on the under.

However, that number has dipped three points after opening at 43.5, and now stands at just 40.5 at the time of writing. That makes it a good time to zig when the market is zagging, especially with public sentiment about the Eagles offense at a low.

We’ve seen this story with Philadelphia before.

The Eagles offense starts slow as they adjust to a new offensive coordinator, A.J. Brown is unhappy, and nothing seems to click. That was the narrative last year about a team that went on to win the Super Bowl while averaging more than 36 points per game in the playoffs.

This year’s Eagles have been better than in year’s past at this point — outside of their disappointing Week 5 loss to the Broncos where they scored just 17 points. They frustratingly gave Saquon Barkley just six carries all game – and only one in the second half – while struggling against a tough Broncos defense.

The Giants are not the Broncos; New York ranks 24th in overall DVOA and 32nd against the run. Barkley is well rested after barely being used last week and is taking on his former team, which happens to be the league’s worst rush defense. If there’s ever a time for him to get going, this is it.

On the other side of the ball, the Giants offense is much more efficient with Jackson Dart than they were with Russel Wilson. The loss of Malik Nabers doesn’t help, but Dart provides enough with his legs to create some plays on his own.

That should be enough to keep things close, or at least put up enough points in a blowout loss to take the total over 40.5.

Pick: Over 40.5 (-105)

Jalen Hurts Anytime Touchdown (-115)

My bets of 2+ units are 20-8 entering Week 6, and I am betting to win 2 units on this one for Thursday Night Football.

I was playing Hurts TDs at the start of the season when the odds were good, and after a few weeks of seeing odds hovering around -150 and two straight games without a TD, the books are letting us get Hurts at reasonable odds tonight.

There are lots of hungry mouths to feed on the Eagles, but they should be able to move the ball almost at will against the Giants.

The only way I see this going south is if there is a direct effort to get Saquon Barkley multiple touchdowns against his former team.

Last season, there was room for both — Hurts found the end zone twice in the same game, while Barkley also made a trip himself.

I'm looking for more of the same on TNF.

Pick: Jalen Hurts Anytime Touchdown (-115)

A.J. Brown Anytime Touchdown (+210)

By Grant Neiffer

A.J. Brown hasn't been great on the touchdown front this season, with just one through five games.

Still, the odds on this bet have gone up far too high.

Brown is the focal point of the Eagles' passing game. Despite the lack of scores, he's racked up 35 targets (19 receptions) over his last four games.

I have the true odds on this bet around +160.

Pick: A.J. Brown Anytime Touchdown (+210)

Saquon Barkley Over 84.5 Rushing Yards (-110)

By Kyle Murray

Saquon Barkley has been a major disappointment on the ground this season as he has really struggled with the lack of efficiency from this Eagles offense.

Last week was a new issue though as Barkley only had six carries against the Broncos. That type of volume is essentially a criminal offense, but I think there might have been some reasoning behind that.

It is no secret there is some bad blood between Barkley and his former team, and with the Eagles set to visit MetLife Stadium on a short week, it would not be surprising if the Eagles took some volume off the table last week in order to ensure Barkley is good to handle more work tonight.

Whether that narrative is true or not, this is an elite matchup — the Giants have had the worst rush defense in the NFL this season. They have allowed the fourth-most yards per carry as well as the seventh-most yards on explosive runs.

This should be a good matchup for Barkley, he has a squeaky-wheel narrative, and the Eagles should be running the ball plenty as 7.5-point favorites.

Pick: Saquon Barkley Over 84.5 Rushing Yards (-110)

Theo Johnson Over 3.5 Receptions (-104)
DraftKings Logo

By Kyle Murray

Theo Johnson took on a much bigger role with the Giants losing star wide receiver Malik Nabers for the season.

Last week against the Saints, Johnson was targeted seven times and finished with six receptions, 33 yards and two touchdowns. He was second on the team with 34 routes run.

The Giants will likely find themselves in pass-heavy situations in this matchup against the Eagles as 7.5-point underdogs.

Pick: Theo Johnson Over 3.5 Receptions (-104)
