Chiefs vs Titans NFL Week 16 Preview

With Patrick Mahomes sidelined for the season, you are getting a Chiefs team that just suffered a huge letdown. This is new territory for them, not having meaningful games instead of wrestling for playoff spots down the stretch.

The Chiefs are eliminated, and going from Mahomes to Gardner Minshew is a massive drop-off at quarterback. This could be really bad for Kansas City because we don't know how many guys it will push with the season already over.

Hollywood Brown was out last game due to personal issues. Rashee Rice is questionable with a concussion, which typically requires a nine-day healing period, and Tyquan Thornton is dealing with the same thing.

You're looking at potentially three wide receivers out for the Chiefs. Xavier Worthy also got banged up in that last game, and he’s not even listed on the injury report.

Then you have the offensive line issues: Jawaan Taylor and Jaylon Moore are both questionable, and Trey Smith hurt his ankle last week. Josh Simmons is already on IR. The Chiefs' top cornerback, Trent McDuffie, is also questionable with a knee injury.

Again, this is new territory for Kansas City. Will they push all these valuable guys or simply wave the white flag and move onto next year? Who knows? We haven't seen them in this predicament.

The Chiefs are 1-7 straight up (SU) and 0-8 against the spread (ATS) in one-score games this year. Prior to this stretch, they were not only 12-0 SU in 2024, but they had won 17 consecutive one-score games outright.

On top of all these issues, the Chiefs don't run the ball well, which is going to be crucial with Minshew making his first start of the season. This could get really messy for Kansas City.

There's also a chance the Titans show up energized and motivated for this game.

The Titans haven't had many chances to wins games this season, and with the spread at +3, Tennessee likely feels like it can and should win this game.

Chiefs vs Titans Prediction, Betting Analysis

Not only is Mahomes out, but the Chiefs are dealing with an avalanche of key injuries, and I think it's more likely than usual that some of these guys get held out. They are also on the road in this spot, with Minshew making his first start of the season.

The Chiefs have lost three straight road games outright, all as favorites.

Everything is up in the air for the Chiefs right now, especially with all the receivers banged up, and what do they do now with Travis Kelce?

I’ll take the Titans +3.5 and love getting the hook, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a smash spot for the Titans. I might not usually say that, but this Chiefs team is just trending downward quickly.

Pick: Titans +3.5 (-120)
