Los Angeles Chargers vs New York Giants NFL Preview
I'm going with the Giants +6.5 at home against the Chargers in NFL Week 4.
This is simple for me. Coming into the year, I thought the Giants were a little bit undervalued in the market.
The Giants laid an egg against Washington in their season-opener. They lost a close one to Dallas in Week 2. And then they laid another egg against Kansas City in their latest matchup.
Russell Wilson was really the one who laid an egg last week. He was throwing the ball into the tunnel in the red zone; the offense was a mess.
The Giants simply couldn't find the end zone after moving the ball down the field, scoring just nine points on 281 total yards. And this was nothing new.
The most glaring example of the Giants' red zone struggles came against Washington in Week 1 when they basically had eight plays inside the 10-yard line and failed to punch it in.
New York's production in the red zone has been simply unacceptable.
So, it's no surprise we are already seeing the Giants switch to rookie Jaxson Dart at quarterback ahead of this matchup.
Regarding the betting market, the Giants enter this week in a similar situation, seemingly flying under the radar a little bit.
The Chargers' defense has been really solid so far this season. However, they escaped with a pair of wins in one-possession games, and quite frankly, their win over the Raiders could've been much closer too.
On the flip side, the Giants' loss to Kansas City last week should have been much closer than the final score of 22-9 may indicate.
If the Giants received competent quarterback play in the red zone in last week's game, they would have been able to keep things competitive down the stretch.
In most cases, the level of competency at the quarterback position doesn't change overnight, but the difference between Wilson and Dart could wind up being night-and-day for the Giants.
Chargers vs Giants Betting Predictions, Analysis
I'm taking the Giants +6.5 against the Chargers this week.
The Chargers' offensive line is banged-up entering this matchup, and that certainly doesn't bode well against the Giants' elite defensive front.
Plus, the switch from Wilson to Dart at quarterback should be all upside for the Giants. He can't be worse than Wilson was the last few weeks, right?
The Giants enter this matchup with a bunch of uncertainty. But what we do know is their quarterback should be much more mobile moving forward, and I expect him to be more accurate as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants pull off the upset here, but either way, I do think it's going to be a lot closer than people think.
We've seen this same song and dance from the Chargers before. They play these tight one-score games over and over again. This game will likely be no different.
So, I’m going to buy low on a winless Giants' team at home in this spot.
