The 49ers needed a wild comeback in the second half to make their second Super Bowl appearance in the past five seasons and their eighth appearance overall. The Niners were favored in all 17 regular season games and they were favorites to win the Super Bowl entering the playoffs. They are the 10th team to accomplish both in the same season since 1980.
