We have a Metropolitan Division tilt on our hands as the fifth-place Columbus Blue Jackets travel to Carolina to take on the first-place Hurricanes. This will be the fourth matchup this season between these two teams, with Carolina taking two out of three so far.
Will Carolina win for the third time against Columbus this year, or can the Blue Jackets keep it close as big underdogs?
Columbus Blue Jackets Are Buzzing
The Columbus Blue Jackets enter this contest on the second half of a road back-to-back following last night's game against the Florida Panthers. As a disclaimer, all of the numbers presented for the Blue Jackets in this article do not include that matchup as this was written prior to the conclusion of Thursday night's game.
Columbus has been playing great hockey lately, winning eight of its last 10 games. Not only are the Blue Jackets winning, but they have covered against the spread in three straight games.
The Blue Jackets offense has been the primary spark for this squad. Over the last nine games, Columbus is averaging a whopping 4.67 goals per game.
Carolina Hurricanes Slowing ATS
The Carolina Hurricanes enter this game on a different note. Despite winning three in a row, Carolina is just 4-4 across its last eight games
Not only has the Hurricanes' record taken a slight dip recently, but they have been a good fade against the spread (ATS). Over their last 10 games as favorites, the Hurricanes are just 2-8 ATS.
Carolina is undoubtedly a powerhouse team led by a strong forward group and a great goaltender in Frederik Andersen. That being said, the Hurricanes seem to have found a lull in their play in February that Columbus could take advantage of here.
Blue Jackets-Hurricanes Pick
Columbus plays teams tough, even on the road. We have seen them pull off upsets away from home against teams like Washington, Carolina and Colorado. I like the value on the Blue Jackets' puck line here.
Getting a goal and a half at just (-105) with a team as hot as Columbus is too much value to pass up, even though I believe Carolina will win outright.
