We got a Pacific Division matchup tonight as the first-place Calgary Flames travel to Vancouver to take on the sixth-place Canucks. This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season, as the Flames won the first matchup 1-0.
Will the Flames take care of business again tonight, or can the Canucks get revenge on home ice?
Surging Flames Are Smoldering Hot
The Calgary Flames have been the best team in hockey recently, having won 10 straight and 12 of their last 13 games. Calgary will look to keep It going tonight following their 3-1 home win against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.
Not only is Calgary winning, but it's covering the puckline regularly, as well. Over those 12 wins, the Flames have won by two or more goals nine times.
The Flames continue to play dominant hockey, which is backed by their outstanding metrics. This season, Calgary ranks fourth in the league in 5-on-5 expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF) and fifth in 5-on-5 expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA).
Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the start in net for the Flames tonight and he has been surreal during this win-streak. Over his last nine starts, Markstrom is 8-0 (left one game early due to injury) with a 0.945 save percentage.
Canucks Face Daunting Task
The Vancouver Canucks enter this game following Monday's 5-2 home win over the Seattle Kraken. The last time the Canucks were a home underdog was against the Islanders in early February in a game where New York dominated in a 6-3 victory.
Vancouver's metrics fail to compete with Calgary's as they rank 26th in the league in 5-on-5 expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF) and 13th in 5-on-5 expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA). Thatcher Demko is the projected starting goaltender for Vancouver tonight and he has seen some regression in his play recently.
Over his last six starts, Demko has a 0.903 save percentage compared to his season mark of 0.916. Calgary is a tough team to get back to form against.
Flames vs. Canucks Pick
I am going to keep betting on the Flames puckline until It fails me. If they get the win tonight, then there is a good chance It will be by two or more goals as seven of Vancouver's last ten losses have been by at least two goals.
