NHL Player Props for Tuesday, May 9

Martin Necas
Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-118) | Anytime Goalscorer (+325)

Necas has created lots of quality looks in the first three games against New Jersey. He was especially dangerous in Game 3, which was largely forgotten due to the 8-4 final score. He hit the crossbar at 14:59 of the first period, just 57 seconds before Jack Hughes scored the opening goal. Necas hit the post again later in the game.

Seeing as posts do not count as a shot on goal, Necas finished with just two shots on goal and therefore disappointed over 2.5 bettors for just the third time in nine playoff games. Even still, he has recorded nine shots on goal in this series, which has featured three blowouts.

The Devils present a different style of play than the Hurricanes saw in round one from the Islanders. Carolina may not spend as much time in the offensive zone against New Jersey, but a more back-and-forth transition style of play makes up for that. I speculated prior to the series that the matchup could be favorable to Necas' shot totals, and that has been the case so far.

This number (-118) at BetRivers is an excellent number for Necas to record over three shots on net, and +325 is a great price to back one of those finding the back of the net.

Timo Meier Over 3.5 Shots on Goal +108

Meier finally broke through with his first goal of the postseason in Game 2, and we should expect him to continue firing aggressively in Game 4.

Meier's 13.93 shots on goal per 60 minutes and 26.67 shot attempts per 60 both rank first on the Devils this postseason. That's 4.69 attempts per 60 more than Hughes for the team lead.

The true volume of Meier's attempts on goal becomes an especially favorable note entering tonight's matchup for two reasons. The Devils have played in an abnormal amount of blowouts, and Meier has at times been skating in a third-line role.

Neither of those negative factors seems overly likely to occur again in tonight's matchup. Meier remained on Hughes' wing at practice, which makes sense since they were very productive in Game 3.

Pick: Timo Meier Over 3.5 Shots (+108)

Roope Hintz Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-114)

Team vs. TeamStars vs Kraken

The Stars have been heavily reliant on Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Joe Pavelski to lead the way offensively this season. With Dallas trailing this series 2-1, we can expect to see them garner lots of time on ice in most game scripts.

Hintz's recent dynamic play has been noteworthy, and there's no doubt he has earned his 13 playoff points. One assist in three games against Seattle is a disappointment, but a lack of attempts on goal has not been the problem. He has put up 13 shots on goal over the first three games of this series.

Dallas has opted to place Tyler Seguin in Pavelski's role on the top line since Game 2 of the Wild series. In a small sample, that has actually led to more attempts on goal for Hintz than he averaged with Pavelski during the regular season. The Stars' new-look top trio has played to a 60.7% expected goals share.

Hintz has been consistently cashing the over 2.5 with ease and that is not surprising evaluating his play. This prop closed at -110 in Game 2, and I do not believe oddsmakers have moved the number enough tonight.

Pick: Roope Hintz Over 2.5 Shots (-114)
