Devils vs Golden Knights Pick

The emergence of Connor Hellebuyck as a New Jersey Devil has certainly shifted things in the Tri-State area.

The two-time Vezina Trophy winner and former MVP was traded to the Devils last week, and in his first game back, ice-cold, stuffed the Dallas Stars by allowing just one goal on one shot allowed.

Admittedly, I was curious how Hellebuyck's return would be. He's coming off his worst statistical season in 2025-26, and I didn't know if it was age or if the team in front of him wasn't helping.

Turns out it was the latter. Because before the loss to the Avalanche the day after, the Devils were in the midst of winning six out of their last seven.

Conversely, the Vegas Golden Knights have had an opposite kind of start to their season. After starting 7-2, the Knights ended up losing three in a row, before getting off the skid with a 4-1 win against the Senators.

There was some concern that goaltender Carter Hart was going to be out for a little bit after suffering a lower body injury, but he was on ice for practice yesterday, and it seems as if coach Ryan Craig is dodging questions on whether or not he'll be available tonight.

Whether it's him or Adin Hill, my model suggests that this is still New Jersey's game to win.

Pick: Devils Moneyline (-110, FanDuel)

Jets vs Panthers Pick

Speaking of Hellebuyck, even before the Winnipeg Jets traded him, the Jets have been a disaster.

They started the season winning four out of six and then have lost seven in a row. As someone who's always had a soft spot for them, I'm afraid I saw it coming. This team has had a hard time recapturing the magic of the 2024-25 season and it's shown in the past two seasons.

Tonight, they play the Florida Panthers, which will be the second time in three games. On Tuesday in Winnipeg, Florida throttled the Jets with a 5-1 beatdown. Carter Verhaeghe netted a couple of goals while the Tkachuk brothers, Matthew and Brady, had three points each.

I'm having a hard time envisioning the Jets getting revenge here. They're a close team, but are nowhere near on the level of talent that the Panthers have.

Right now, Florida is the top defensive unit in the NHL, with a 20.29 xGA. This is incredibly important because it has the volatile Akira Schmid as its netminder.

The offense hasn't been clicking yet with the Cats, with their goal differential at a shocking -3. You can probably tack that onto them being top-heavy. Florida's depth has not been showing up on the offensive end.

Regardless, I'll take its top-end talent any day of the week. After starting the season 1-4, it's finally starting to look up, winning five out of its last seven. Take the Cats in regulation.

Pick: Panthers 60 Minute Line (-135, DraftKings)

Kraken vs Flames Pick

Color me shocked that the Seattle Kraken are actually good and fun.

For a while, I've been so down on this team because of how poor the roster construction was. Not only that, I hated the hire of Lane Lambert as coach. As someone who watched him up close as the head coach of the Islanders, I thought the Kraken were going to be more of the same. Mediocre, bland, and boring.

Slap me silly, because that is NOT the case.

At one point, the Kraken were leading the Pacific Division. But after only playing one game in six days, that lead dwindled away. Not their fault.

The Kraken head up north to take on the Calgary Flames, a team that has won me some money so far, but also a team that stinks. Don't let the five wins in six games fool you. A lot of it was on the back of goaltender Devin Cooley — who's now out after leaving mid-game against the Oilers on Wednesday.

Calgary has already played the Kraken twice in the first three games of the season, and the Kraken whooped the Flames 6-1 in both games. Dustin Wolf was the netminder in both of them, and with Cooley out, you can expect to see Wolf again.

I don't know what happened with Wolf, who was shaping up to be one of the game's best young goaltenders. This season, he's played to a paltry .839 SV% and a second-worst -8.6 GSAx among all goalies.

Goaltending will always be my hang-up with the Kraken. After Philipp Grubauer started in Seattle's last game, I'd assume Joey Daccord gets the nod.

Coming into this game, I had in my head that the over was likely a direction I was heading toward. But when I saw the lines, I got suspicious. The market is likely overreacting to this nice stretch that the Flames were on, because I don't think this matchup is that close.

Seattle has had its way with Wolf in the past, and I'm envisioning that again. At -120, I'm backing the Kraken straight up.

Pick: Kraken Moneyline (-120, FanDuel)
