Senators vs. Kings Pick

I'm dipping my toe in unknown waters. But there's good reason that today's the day.

If you don't follow Nick Giffen, our Senior Predictive Analyst on X (@RotoDoc), you're missing out on some good stuff. The Doctor, who's mainly known for his NFL, NASCAR, and Soccer bets, has started a "First Goal Scorer" model for hockey, and even though it's not ready to be deployed yet, we've seen astounding results.

Last night, Dr. Nick's model had several picks lined up for several games' first goal scorers. Aliaksei Protas of the Capitals, Alex Formenton of the Oilers, and Berkly Catton of the Kraken.

All three of them scored. Not all were the first in the game, but Catton, however, was the first goal scorer in Seattle's battle with the Maple Leafs.

Well, The Doctor is back in the lab, and now one intriguing option he uncovered is Kings forward Alex Laferriere.

Why Laferriere? Well, let's dive into the numbers. He only has two goals of the season, but he's had his hand in a lot of Los Angeles' offense, with seven assists.

In five of the Kings' first goals of the game, Laferriere was a part of them. Both of his goals were first goals of the game, while he assisted on three of them.

He's also tied with Adrian Kempe and Artemi Panarin for the lead in high danger chances created, and does an exceptional job at generating rebounds off opposing netminders and scoring 0.9 expected goals off rebounds.

For the Senators, goaltender Samuel Ersson takes the crease, and he's one of hockey's most volatile tenders. Right now, Ersson has a horrendous .835 SV% and a -5.8 GSAx, which makes this opportunity too intriguing to pass up.

You can get Laferriere at +1500 on FanDuel.

Best Bet: Alex Laferriere First Goal Scorer
