In a matter of hours, President Donald Trump will headline a Republican rally in Corinth, Mississippi, as part of his tour supporting GOP candidates. Across prediction markets and polls, incumbent senator Cindy Hyde-Smith continues to lead, but Republicans are taking no chances heading into the final stretch against Democratic challenger Scott Colom.

Between high-profile rallies, declined debate invitations, and fake polls circulated by campaign staff, the Mississippi Senate race has emerged as one of the strangest of the entire election cycle.

Trump to Rally in Corinth: What to Expect

President Donald Trump travels to North Mississippi this Monday to headline a GOP rally aimed at bolstering and delivering a final push to Republican candidates in that critical battleground. One of the most prominent names on the ballot is Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, who is facing a challenge from Democrat Scott Colom.

The event will be held in Corinth, where the president will deliver a campaign speech reaffirming his administration's goals for the remainder of his term and his commitment to local candidates.

Historically, Mississippi has been a reliably red stronghold. In fact, Trump carried the state in 2024 with 60% of the vote. The challenge now is that, mirroring trends across the country, recent polling indicates his popularity has dipped. As a result, GOP candidates have lost ground, opening the door for Democrats to dream of flipping that Senate seat on November 3.

Mississippi Senate Race Odds

The race for the Magnolia State's U.S. Senate seat features Republican candidate Cindy Hyde-Smith, the state's junior senator, as the clear frontrunner.

On Polymarket, traders remain convinced that historical voting trends in Mississippi, combined with the power of incumbency, hand Hyde-Smith an overwhelming advantage, which is why she is currently trading at an 87% implied probability. In mid-October, her contract peaked at 94%, the highest level recorded since the "Mississippi Senate Winner" market opened.

The polling landscape presents a similar picture, albeit with a trend line that is causing concern within the GOP.

In August and September surveys, Hyde-Smith held a comfortable 6-point lead over Democratic challenger Scott Colom. However, the latest Change Research poll shows that margin narrowing to 3 percentage points, a notable contraction, yet one that still leaves her as the favorite heading into November.

Colom Challenges Trump to a Debate

Cindy Hyde-Smith declined an invitation to debate her opponent, prompting Scott Colom to target Donald Trump instead, challenging him to a debate during his visit to Corinth.

Trump is unlikely to take Colom’s remarks seriously, but the Democrat’s objective is not actually to stage a debate; rather, it is to plant doubt about why Hyde-Smith refuses to appear in a public forum. This is the tactic Democrats will seek to leverage in the closing days of the campaign in an effort to chip away at the GOP's sizable advantage in Mississippi.

Fake Poll Alert: How a Fabricated “Tied” Survey Spread

To further complicate Mississippi's electoral climate, a fake poll added another layer of uncertainty and volatility. Just a week ago, Scott Colom’s campaign team shared a survey from Wedgewood Polls showing the Democratic challenger deadlocked with the Republican incumbent. The problem was that the results were entirely fabricated, part of a survey used as a "social experiment" by the polling firm.

Later, Wedgewood Polls admitted its polling was fabricated in a stunt "to demonstrate the vulnerabilities, lack of oversight, and overall low barrier to entry in the modern political polling industry". The revelation dealt a heavy blow to the credibility of Colom’s campaign and served as a stark reminder that social media can be a double-edged sword in political campaigning.

What Hyde-Smith and Colom are Saying in the Final Week

With just days remaining before the election, both Colom and Hyde-Smith are ramping up their closing arguments.

For her part, the incumbent Republican senator maintains that she will continue defending conservative values, supporting local agriculture, and standing firm on economic and judicial issues aligned with Mississippi’s conservative base.

Meanwhile, Colom positions himself as an independent candidate, a much-needed breath of fresh air for a state he argues is in desperate need of accountability and transparency.
