Aston Villa vs. FC Barcelona
Barcelona looks to recover from its first loss in the Champions League when the Spanish giants host Aston Villa at Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET.
Barca is having another dominant campaign across the board, sitting atop La Liga with a 10-0-1 record and going 2-0-1 in the Champions League after losing 4-2 to reigning winners Paris Saint-Germain in Gameweek 3.
Led by a potent combo up top of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, Barcelona is boasting one of the best attacks in all of football this season. Barca leads La Liga with 46 goals in 11 matches – 18 more than any other club – while also ranking fourth in goals per game in the Champions League (3.67).
Somewhat surprisingly, Aston Villa is one of the three clubs that rank above them in that category, averaging an absurd 4.00 goals per game. Across three Champions League matches, Villa has averaged 5.00 total goals, scoring at least three goals themselves in each of those games.
Both Aston Villa (2.31; 7th) and Barcelona (2.26; 9th) also rank among the top 10 in expected goals per 90 in the Champions League, so there will be no shortage of chances for either side.
I’m taking Over 4.5 goals in what should be a thrilling match.
Pick: Over 4.5 Goals (+125)
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Villarreal
Defending Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain hit the pitch Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET when they visit Villarreal at Estadio de la Ceramica.
PSG has had one of the most difficult Champions League schedules to date, but they’ve handled it without much fuss, defeating both Barcelona and Manchester City 4-2 while also putting up six goals against Slovan Bratislava.
The French side paces all teams in the Champions League in goals per game (4.67) and expected goals per 90 (2.80), and I’m expecting more of the same this week.
Villarreal has also been an exciting team to watch, with at least four total goals in each of their three Champions League matches. The Spanish squad ranks 10th in goals per game (2.67) and has allowed the third-most goals per game (2.67) in the Champions League.
PSG should win this one as the -160 favorite, but you’ll get a better price on Over 3.5 goals.
Pick: Over 3.5 Goals (-115)
Arsenal vs. SK Slavia Praha
Slavia Prague and Arsenal kick off at Fortuna Arena on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET in Gameweek 4.
Arsenal is off to a dominant start in the Premier League, sitting atop the table with an 8-0-1 record and coming off a tidy 1-0 win over Liverpool this past weekend.
The Gunners have also taken seven points from their first three games in the Champions League, a solid return considering they’ve faced Bayern Munich (2-2) and Napoli (1-0). This matchup will be a step down in competition for Arsenal, who are eighth in expected goals per 90 (2.26) and a stingy second in expected goals against per 90 (0.77) in the Champions League.
Slavia Prague has surrendered 2.33 goals and 1.89 expected goals against per game through three Champions League matches – putting them in the bottom 10 in both categories.
Arsenal’s dynamic attack should slice through Slavia Prague with relative ease, and I don’t see the Czech side finding many holes in the Gunners’ defense.
Pick: Arsenal -1.5 (+100)
Como vs. RC Lens
Como looks to continue its strong start to the Champions League when it kicks off against Lens at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.
Playing in their first-ever Champions League campaign, Como is coming off a pair of impressive 4-1 wins over Manchester United and RB Leipzig, and it’s time to start believing the hype.
The Italian squad managed by Cesc Fabregas has already scored 10 goals in the Champions League – the best three-game total by a debutant since 1973 – with every goal coming from open play. They’re also tied for fifth among all Champions League clubs with 3.33 goals per game.
Como enters Wednesday on a five-game winning streak across all competitions, outscoring its opponents 13-3, while Lens is 2-0-3 across its last five matches following a 3-0 loss to Club Brugge and a 2-0 defeat to Sporting CP in the Champions League.
Como is playing like a well-oiled machine under Fabregas, and it should pick up a third straight Champions League victory this week.
