Sky vs. Fever Preview
It was clear in the absence of Caitlin Clark that the Fever were going to need someone in the backcourt to step up, and that someone has been Sophie Cunningham. We've seen Cunninham's uptick in usage lead to a big rise in production, and that is going to continue tonight against the Sky.
This season, Cunningham averages 5.6 field goal attempts per game, with 3.9 of them coming from beyond the arc, which has led to her averaging 8.6 points. However, over her last ten games, she is averaging seven field goal attempts per game, with five of those coming from downtown, and that has equated to 11.9 points per game in that span.
Her floor is very high for this matchup as the Sky are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They rank 10th in points allowed per game overall and are 12th in points allowed to guards.
Additionally, the Sky do not defend the perimeter well as they are 11th in 3-pointers allowed to guards, which is where the majority of Cunningham's attempts have come from lately.
The Fever are sizable favorites tonight, and if they are going to cover the spread, expect Cunningham to be a big part of it.
