Sky vs. Mercury Preview

Only two unbeatens remain in the WNBA and, surprisingly, one of them is Chicago.

Yes, the same Sky that finished tied for last place at 10-34 a season ago and shipped disgruntled star Angel Reese to Atlanta in the offseason.

So far, the fresh start has worked.

Chicago opened the year with road wins over Portland and Golden State and now continues its four-game trip in Phoenix against the 1-2 Mercury.

The Sky handed the Valkyries their first loss on Wednesday behind 18 points from Rickea Jackson, including a clutch 3-pointer to help seal the victory. Skylar Diggins filled out the stat sheet with 15 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

New additions Jackson (18 points per game) and Diggins (18 PPG) have fueled Chicago early, while holdover Kamilla Cardoso has remained a consistent double-double threat with averages of 15 points and 10.5 rebounds.

Phoenix opened its campaign by stunning the defending champion Aces 99-66 in their WNBA Finals rematch, but has since dropped back-to-back games against Golden State and Minnesota.

Kahleah Copper leads a balanced offensive attack at 18 points per game, while fellow veteran Alyssa Thomas boasts 16.3 points and a league-best 9.3 assist average.

Serbian standout Jovana Nogic is in her first WNBA season but, at 28, brings extensive professional experience overseas and has already flashed her scoring ability.

The Mercury have had to reinvent themselves offensively after losing leading scorer Satou Sabally to New York last month.

Copper is coming off a 30-point performance against the Lynx that included 10 made free throws on 13 attempts. Notably, Copper only reached double-digit free throw tries once last season.

Despite the slow start, Phoenix still expects to make another deep playoff run.

On the injury front, DiJonai Carrington (foot), Azura Stevens (knee) and Courtney Vandersloot (knee) remain out for Chicago, while Sami Whitcomb (knee) is sidelined for Phoenix.

Sky vs. Mercury Prediction

DeWanna Bonner may be a 16-year vet, but she’s still producing at a high level for Phoenix.

Bonner is averaging 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds through three games. Her offensive involvement has steadily increased as well, with her shot attempts rising from 7 to 9 to 16.

Even with multiple scoring options in the Mercury lineup, Bonner continues to see meaningful usage, with an average of five 3-point attempts per game.

That growing workload helps explain why Action PRO projects value on Bonner’s 11.5 points prop.

She’s projected for 13.62 points, creating a 16.1% edge versus the market.

Best Bet: DeWanna Bonner Over 11.5 Points (-120, DraftKings)
