The Athletics (22-26) host the Los Angeles Angels (21-35) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. First pitch from Sutter Health Park is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports West and MLB.TV.
The Angels took care of business last night in their 4-3 victory over the Athletics. The A's offense couldn't crack through against Jose Soriano as much as I thought they would, and they have now lost 6 straight games. Tonight, the A's look to snap their six-game losing streak when they send Gunnar Hoglund to the mound to take on Halos starter Kyle Hendricks.

Angels vs Athletics Betting Preview, Prediction
The Halos continued their winning ways on Monday night and are off to another strong start this series. They'll look to earn their fifth consecutive victory tonight, but it will be a tall task.
Kyle Hendricks will take the ball tonight as he continues to be a weak-contact merchant. Opposing hitters have an extremely low 31% hard-hit rate against him, but he's still not missing bats.
There's little history between Hendricks and the A's, but they're 7-for-26 against him. It's impressive how he has limited hard contact thus far, but his 5.18 ERA speaks for itself.
I don't like Hendricks' park dimensions tonight, especially against an A's offense that thrives early in games. They're loaded with hitters who hit the ball hard, and there's looming offensive fortune coming for these hitters as well.
I also don't like the Halos' matchup tonight against Gunnar Hoglund. Although he has limited innings to showcase accurate data thus far, I like what I've seen from the rookie right-hander.
Hoglund has an above-average whiff rate and doesn't allow much hard contact. The Angels offense didn't dazzle much last night, but their winning streak is in jeopardy given tonight's matchup.
The A's offense disappointed me last night, as they couldn't pull through. But that's not stopping me from hopping back on the wagon tonight, mainly because of their matchup against Hendricks.
The Athletics' lineup boasts many bats with above-average xSLGs, so they hit the ball hard. Hendricks has limited hard contact thus far, but he still throws batting practice out there every fifth day.
The market has this total at 10.5, mainly because Hendricks is on the mound. That said, I love the matchup for the A's offense tonight.
Hendricks' opponent barrel rate sits in the second percentile, which is atrocious. He also has whiff and strikeout rates below 16%.
Meanwhile, Hoglund has shown promising stuff as a rookie. He enters tonight with a 30% whiff rate, 6% walk rate and 38% hard-hit rate.
Those are excellent metrics, and he's on a trajectory to perform even better in the future. His 4.96 xERA suggests he has been fortunate thus far, but I still like what I've seen from the young right-hander.
The market suggests that the A's are snapping their losing streak tonight, but I can't back them at this price. Hoglund's limited league experience is too risky, even if he'll be a solid pitcher moving forward.
Angels vs A's Pick, Betting Analysis
I'm returning to the well with the A's tonight, but I'll target their team total instead.
Hendricks is a couple of bad months away from being forced into retirement, and the A's should take out their recent frustrations on him tonight.
This Athletics' lineup is still underrated, and I love what I've seen from the top portion of the batting order. They should crush Hendricks, the weak-contact merchant, tonight.
I'd rather pay a cheaper price on their team total than lay an expensive moneyline.
Pick: A's Team Total Over 5.5
Moneyline
While I see plenty of success coming for the Athletics, I'm staying away from betting them on the moneyline.
Run Line (Spread)
Like the moneyline, I'm not backing either side on the run line.
Over/Under
While I don't have a pick on the full-game total, my best bet for this game is for the Athletics to go over their team total of 5.5.
