Collin Whitchurch’s Athletics vs Cardinals Prediction, Betting Analysis
The Cardinals rank just 20th in K-rate against right-handed pitching overall this season. They're generally one of the tougher teams to strike out, but since the trade deadline they've turned over some positions to younger guys, and that K-rate has skyrocketed.
Since August 1st, they have a 26.7% strikeout rate — second-highest in the majors during that span, behind only the Angels. That's specifically against right-handed pitching. It's not a small sample either, as the Cardinals have been giving a lot of playing time to guys like Nathan Church, Thomas Saggese, and Pedro Pages.
This lineup is much more strikeout-prone than it was earlier in the season, and that may not be fully factored into this line. I was surprised to see Severino’s strikeout prop sitting at 3.5 tonight — I expected 4.5. It almost feels like a trap.
