Doug Ziefel’s Orioles vs Yankees Preview
While temperatures rose across the country yesterday, the Orioles' bats were ice cold as Clarke Schmidt held them hitless across seven innings.
They would only manage one hit in the loss, and their lineup faces another stiff challenge today in the form of Will Warren.
Warren is Michael King 2.0 for the Yankees, as he has shown elite upside, producing whiffs and strikeouts at the same rates as the best arms in the game. Additionally, he's due for a significant amount of positive regression, as his 3.62 xERA and 2.87 xFIP paint a much more accurate picture of his season's performance than his 4.83 ERA.
The Orioles have been above average against righties this season, boasting a 110 wRC+ with the fourth-highest ISO. However, Warren has done an excellent job of limiting fly balls and has a home run per nine rate allowed of just 0.78.
Along with racking up strikeouts, limiting the flyballs will be crucial to containing the Orioles' lineup as the temps and wind today have made Yankee Stadium a hitters' paradise.
On the flip side of this matchup, the Yankees' bats broke out in a big way on Saturday, putting up nine runs on 14 hits.
They are primed to continue their offensive onslaught this morning as they face Orioles starter Dean Kremer.
Kremer has not had the best 2025 campaign, entering with a 4.80 ERA and no signs of improvement.
He will have to contend with the most dangerous lineup in the American League, as the Yankees lead the AL in home runs while also ranking among the top three in xSLG and xWOBACON.
On top of all that, Kremer is unlikely to receive any help from the weather.
Kremer has allowed homers at an alarming rate, and this is the last lineup he would want to face with the wind blowing out and high temperatures in one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks.
Look for Kremer to struggle the first two times through the order and exit early, as the Orioles have multiple high-leverage arms to navigate the final four innings of this game.
Orioles vs Yankees Prediction, Betting Analysis
This series finale is a smash spot for the Yankees lineup as they could not ask for better conditions to face a home run-prone pitcher like Kremer.
On the other hand, Warren presents all the tools to combat the conditions, as he should limit contact in general; however, his key to success is keeping the ball out of the air.
In a matchup where everything points towards the Yankees, the best way to back them is by fading Kremer directly and taking the under on his pitching outs prop.
Pick: Dean Kremer Under 15.5 Pitching Outs (-110, BetMGM | Play to -120)
Moneyline
There are better ways to back the Yankees than laying their moneyline price.
Run Line (Spread)
The run line is certainly worth a look, as New York should build an early lead and maintain it with a fresh bullpen.
Over/Under
In the same breath, the over is also in play as the Yankees are projected to put up nearly two-thirds of the 9.5 runs expected.
