Red Sox vs Yankees MLB Betting Preview

Ranger Suarez has begun to show flashes of the dependable arm he had while in Philadelphia. The crafty Red Sox left-hander has continued to excel at generating soft contact, as opponents have an average exit velocity of just 87.6 mph against him.

While his groundball rate is down from years past, the key to his success in this start is to keep the ball in the yard and, given Yankee Stadium's hitter-friendly dimensions, out of the air in general. He has done plenty of that, holding a flyball rate of 34.4% and only allowing 0.61 homers per nine innings.

All of this is amplified by his efficiency and ability to pound the zone. Suarez has an above-average walk rate and only throws around 3.8 pitches per plate appearance.

However, what is interesting is that his chase rate is 31.4%, just 0.1 behind the likes of Jacob Misiorowski, despite having a below-average first-pitch strike rate.

This means that Suarez's repertoire, which consists of heavy sinker and cutter usage, is forcing hitters to swing at pitches just outside the zone at the point of contact, which is directly correlated with the quality of contact they make against him.

The Yankees have a massive hole in the middle of their order without Aaron Judge, leaving them with four bats that have above-average exit velocities against lefties, but one of them is Ben Rice, who strikes out a ton.

With minimal threat in New York's order and Suarez primed to work efficiently, we should see him record outs in the sixth, going over his outs prop for the night.

Pick: Ranger Suarez Over 15.5 Outs Recorded (-132, DraftKings)
