Tampa Bay Rays Player Prop

We're often left to guess about pitcher workloads, but the Rays have been candid about Drew Rasmussen's situation — Tuesday’s starter.

They set a cap of 150 innings for him this season and decided to limit his workload in late June.

The Rays called up Joe Boyle with the specific intention of having him piggyback with Rasmussen. In his two July starts, Rasmussen tossed two frames in each game, with Boyle covering the bulk of the innings afterward.

Rasmussen is expected to resume closer to a regular workload following the All-Star Break, but he himself has said that it won't jump back up immediately.

“I would assume that there will be a little bit of process getting back up there," Rasmussen said. "I know (the Rays) are always looking after me and doing what’s best for me. I’m sure it’s going to be slightly shortened, but nothing as extreme as what it’s been these past couple of outings.”

The Rays have already been cautious with Rasmussen even before the Boyle piggyback game plan. He's topped 90 pitches in only one of his 19 starts this season. He's completed six innings in just four of those starts.

I'm expecting the ceiling to be five innings on Tuesday. We won't get an Outs prop, but I'd set the hypothetical line at 12.5.

Rasmussen has been a modest strikeout pitcher (21.6%), and he's facing a team with the ninth-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the past month.

One more minor angle is the weather. From meteorologist Kevin Roth: "My best guess would be a game that starts dry, then is interrupted by slow-moving downpours, then may or may not ever restart." That's another strike against Rasmussen's workload.

Pick: Drew Rasmussen Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-125, DraftKings)
