Reds vs Braves MLB Betting Preview
I’m betting on the reigning NL Cy Young winner in tonight’s matchup between the Reds and Braves.
In his last start, Chris Sale looked more like his old self, striking out 10 and walking none in seven innings against the Rockies.
Sale has been mostly fine from a run prevention standpoint, as he’s allowed more than three earned runs just once in seven starts.
Likewise, Sale has walked just nine batters this year.
That said, I do expect Sale to issue a few free passes tonight.
Cincinnati’s offense has been below-average, but the Reds are better against left-handed pitching and are significantly more patient against the side.
Among MLB lineups, the Reds have the second-highest walk rate in the majors against southpaws (12%), compared to the 15th-highest against right-handed pitching (9%).
Sale can generally dot the strike zone with the best of them, but he’s prone to bouts of wildness. Of his nine walks, eight came in a three-start span where he walked three, three, and two against the Rays, Twins, and Diamondbacks, respectively.
Pick: Chris Sale Over 1.5 Walks (-150, DraftKings)
