Royals vs Red Sox Pick, Betting Analysis

This is a Bartolo-based play in which I'm going with the Royals vs. Red Sox under 8.5 tonight. Seth Lugo against Sonny Gray. This number's too high.

I think that numbers often go up a little bit at Fenway. Lugo has not graded out well as a starting pitcher. He's had a couple of really bad starts. I think all of the mojo he gained from his better days in Kansas City has kind of been lost. He gave up nine runs two starts ago against the Guardians, not missing any bats.

But I just think that the number's a little bit too high here for both of these offenses, who just grade out a little bit above average from a splits perspective.

Gray has obviously been great this year. Down-ballot Cy Young candidate, 2.69 ERA. A lot of his expected stats speak to a tiny bit of regression, but nothing like super alarming.

And probably most importantly tonight, it's a weather downgrade in Boston. It's not going to be super hot there. Seventy degrees, 42% humidity, wind blowing across from left to right, so not blowing out. Zerillo gives us a weather run adjustment of -2.3%.

So again, actually a slight edge to the Royals if you're betting a side on this game. He gives a 2.1% edge on the moneyline to the Royals. But Under 8.5 has a 4.6% edge, as our Bartolo tool puts this total at 7.79 tonight in Boston.

Pick: Under 8.5 (-105)
