Los Angeles Angels Betting Preview: Southpaw Kikuchi Solid Matchup Against Rangers

Yusei Kikuchi gets the ball tonight for the Halos, entering with a 3.42 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Kikuchi has 153 strikeouts in 150 innings pitched, but a few other areas in his metrics give me cause for concern.

Kikuchi has a 9% walk rate and a 92 mph average exit velocity from opposing hitters, which is probably why he has such a high WHIP and a 4.39 xERA.

Although those numbers are concerning, he has succeeded against these Texas bats. In 104 plate appearances, Kikuchi has held the Rangers to a .250 batting average and a 26% strikeout rate.

It's also worth noting that the Rangers' team batting average dips about .10 points when facing left-handers instead of right-handers. Kikuchi has been inconsistent at times, but I like his matchup tonight.

The Angels' bats have a great matchup against Patrick Corbin. The Halos are batting .353 against him across 85 plate appearances.

Corbin is not nearly as bad as the public perceives him to be, but tonight is a good opportunity for the Halos bats to hang a crooked number early.

Texas Rangers Betting Preview: Rangers Need Corbin To Kick Into Gear

The Rangers have had a disappointing season, and tonight is not their best matchup. Despite his struggles, the offense doesn't match up well against Kikuchi.

Texas also struggles to hit left-handers, so there is a legitimate concern that they could be at a disadvantage in the early portion of the matchup. With that said, a strong start from Patrick Corbin is critical for them tonight.

Corbin has flashed moments in 2025 when he has rejuvenated his career, but numerous inconsistencies pose a big concern. Corbin's metrics suggest he is generating an above-average chase and whiff rate, but he still struggles to create punchouts.

His groundball percentage is 38%, which is also below the league average. I also mentioned above that the Halos have had great success against him, which leads me to believe he will struggle tonight.

In August, Corbin allowed 14 earned runs, including four home runs. He is trending in the wrong direction, and I have no intention of backing the Rangers tonight.

Angels vs Rangers Prediction, Betting Analysis

Tonight is a great spot to take the Angels F5 moneyline. Kikuchi should hold the Rangers bats at bay, and I love their matchup against Corbin.

Kikuchi doesn't need to be flawless either, as I have enough faith in the bats to score runs early. It's a good opportunity to sell the Rangers high and buy the Angels low, and I would rather target the F5 innings than navigate late-inning bullpen variance from either side.

Pick: Angels F5 ML (-125, via Fanatics)
