Yankees vs Guardians MLB Betting Preview

New York Yankees Betting Preview

Will Warren has been overlooked in this elite Yankees’ rotation, but he's quietly having a stellar season. In his second full campaign, Warren is 7-1 with a 3.22 ERA in 12 starts and has racked up 70 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings.

The 26-year-old has greatly improved his K-BB% with increased control and an above-average strikeout rate. He has also worked to improve his splits. After allowing lefties to hit for a .342 wOBA last year, Warren has tweaked his pitch mix offering to left-handed batters and lowered his wOBA against to .308.

The Yankees' offense has been booming this season. They lead the league in runs and home runs and have the best team OPS. They sit second in on-base percentage and first in slugging percentage, a pretty good combination.

The problem is the massive hole at the top of their lineup without Aaron Judge. They will need everybody else to really step up and carry this team. Ben Rice is second in baseball with a 1.032 OPS, and Cody Bellinger is crushing the ball right now, but they need more help behind them.

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview

We know Cleveland just churns out good pitchers, and Gavin Williams has become one of them. He has a 9-3 record with a 3.20 ERA on the year and has racked up 94 strikeouts already, the most in the American League. He can be a little inconsistent and have the occasional blow-up outing, but when he is on, he is as filthy as anybody.

Opponents are hitting just a measly .201 against Williams this season, fifth best in the league. He has tweaked his pitch mix a lot recently, significantly lowering his fastball usage in favor of his sinker.

Cleveland’s offense ranks 10th in the league in scoring this year, getting it done slightly differently than the Yankees' power bats. The Guardians use a “walk then run” approach to manufacture runs. They rank second in the league in walks this season (behind the Yankees) and sit tied for first in stolen bases (with the Yankees).

Jose Ramirez continues to be the anchor in this lineup, but young stars Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana have added an instant spark and a lot of fun to this Guardians lineup.

Yankees vs Guardians Pick, Betting Analysis

Warren gets loft in the shuffle of the rest of the Yankees' rotation, but he has quietly been terrific this season. He has improved his command and success against left-handed hitters and has allowed just two runs or fewer in 10 of his 12 starts this season.

Williams ERA is inflated by a few bad starts here and there, but when his stuff is clicking, he is virtually unhittable. Williams leads the American League in strikeouts and punched out six Yankees in his start against them last week. He only allowed four hits; the problem was that two of them were homers.

Both of these starting pitchers have worked to improve their command this season and cut down on walks. They both have elite strikeout upside. While both of these offenses rank in the top 10 in scoring, they are also both relatively top-heavy. If they can navigate the top of these lineups, the bottom half is relatively unintimidating. Over the last two weeks, Cleveland has been last in the American League in scoring, and New York has an MVP-sized hole in its lineup.

With two young pitchers I am very high on, I'll back the favorable pitching matchup against two slumping offenses on Monday.

Pick: Under 8
