Rangers vs White Sox MLB Betting Preview
Mackenzie Gore’s 4.26 ERA doesn’t immediately catch your attention, but the supporting metrics say he has pitched better than that. He owns a 3.80 xERA, 3.70 FIP, 26.0% strikeout rate and a strong 17.6% K-minus-BB rate. His .302 xwOBA allowed is also better than his actual .305 wOBA, suggesting the surface results have been a little unlucky.
More importantly, Gore is in excellent form. He has posted a 1.57 ERA across 23 innings in August with 25 strikeouts, and he’s coming off six shutout innings against the Angels while allowing only two hits.
The matchup is favorable as well. Chicago strikes out plenty, and Gore has the swing-and-miss profile to take advantage, with a 26.9% whiff rate and 31.6% chase rate this season. The White Sox are carrying roughly a 25% strikeout rate into this matchup. If Gore gets ahead with the fastball and buries the breaking stuff, the Sox should have trouble stringing together quality at-bats.
Sean Burke has quietly put together a strong season, posting a 3.27 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 146 innings. The analytic profile is legitimate, too: a 3.56 xERA, 3.46 FIP, 26.5% strikeout rate and just a 7.0% walk rate.
His contact numbers back it up. Burke has allowed a .293 xwOBA, .228 xBA and .371 xSLG, while limiting hard contact to a 37.5% hard-hit rate and 7.5% barrel rate. His four-seamer has been especially effective, holding hitters to a .178 average with a 34.0% strikeout rate.
That matters against a Texas offense that isn’t a matchup we need to fear. The Rangers’ numbers against right-handed starters have been underwhelming this season. Burke should be able to attack this lineup without any issues.

Rangers vs White Sox Pick, Betting Analysis
I’m going right back to the first-five market tonight, and this one is a pick many will overlook. It all starts with tonight’s pitching matchup: Mackenzie Gore vs. Sean Burke.
Yes, these teams combined for 18 runs last night. Sounds like a dream situation to me. Let the box-score bozos chase the over after an 11-7 game.
This is a completely different pitching matchup, and I’d much rather isolate Gore and Burke than rely on either bullpen. We can survive a 2-2 score and still cash. With two starters carrying strikeout rates above 26%, strong expected metrics and legitimate swing-and-miss stuff, I’m betting this game starts a lot quieter than last night.
Pick: F5 Under 4.5
