Pistons vs Hornets NBA Preview

The last time these teams two played each other, they fought — literally.

This time, we have different stakes attached. The Pistons don't need to win, but this is a possible 1-vs-8 matchup in the postseason, so Detroit could treat this as a dress rehearsal before Sunday's finale in Indiana.

No matter what, homecourt is with Detroit as long as they're in the playoffs out east.

For Charlotte, every win matters. The Hornets play against Detroit tonight, and then they face the Knicks at Madison Square Garden Sunday.

They got some help with Houston beating Philly, and with Toronto beating Miami. The Hornets are now tied with the 76ers for eighth, without the tiebreaker — but a win would help immensely now that Philly will be without Joel Embiid down the stretch.

Mathematically, Charlotte could get out of the play-in with back-to-back wins and some help.

Injury-wise, Charlotte is expecting everyone to be at full go. Coby White (groin) is probable; otherwise, it's a clean report. White sat out the Hornets' loss to Boston on Tuesday.

For Detroit, Kevin Hurter (illness) is questionable.

Pistons vs Hornets Predictions, Betting Analysis

The prop market for this game is really sharp, and I actually played the Hornets at -3.5 last night. It's now up to -5.5.

The only thing I truly feel confident in about this game is that Charlotte is going to win it.

The Hornets need it, Detroit doesn't — and the Hornets are willing to go all out for this one. The Pistons don't need to.

Charlotte, band-for-band, is a matchup problem here. The Hornets have four guys who could get their own shot at 6'6" or better; Detroit only has one.

Pick: Hornets -5.5 (-110)
