The postseason has officially arrived, and with it comes the win-or-go-home intensity of the 2026 NBA Play-In Tournament. Tonight, the Miami Heat (10) travel to North Carolina to take on the Charlotte Hornets (9) in a matchup that feels like a clash of two very different timelines.

In a game with such high stakes, we aren't just looking for standard lines—we’re looking for the "ceiling" performances. That’s where the ladder pick comes in. If you think a player might go way over their line, you bet their standard over, then "ladder" up into alternate territories (25+, 30+, 35+) for a higher payout.

Today, I'm zeroing in on the two primary engines of these offenses: LaMelo Ball and Tyler Herro.

NBA Player Prop Ladders: Alternate Line Picks for Heat vs Hornets

  • LaMelo Ball Prop Ladder + Hornets -9.5 (+345 / +650)
  • Tyler Herro Prop Ladder + Heat Moneyline (+465 / +900)

LaMelo Ball Prop Ladder + Hornets Alternate Spread

I think this game goes one of two ways. Either the Hornets run away with it early, or the Heat win close.

So, I'm looking for ways to bet the Heat to win and the Hornets to win big.

If the Hornets win big, LaMelo Ball is the guy you expect to be the primary catalyst, even if his shooting percentage against Miami is historically woeful (35 percent), as was the same in two Play-In appearances from his first two seasons.

In wins, he's averaging 20.4 points per game, and he's up to 25 points per game in six games in the month of April — the only NBA month where he has logged at least 30 minutes per contest.

When LaMelo plays bigger minutes, he can climb into alternate line territory.

Fonseca's LaMelo Ball Ladder for Tonight

  • LaMelo Ball Over 22.5 Points (-120)
  • LaMelo Ball 25+ Points / Hornets -9.5 (+345)
  • LaMelo Ball 30 Points / Hornets -9.5 (+650)

Tyler Herro Prop Ladder + Heat Moneyline

If Miami wins, Tyler Herro is the guy to look at.

As bad as he's been in the playoffs, Herro is a Play-In monster.

Just last year, in a similar situation, he racked up 30-8-7 vs. Atlanta and 38-5-4 vs. Chicago.

The Play-In seems to be the only instance where Herro's scoring means more winning.

Fonseca's Tyler Herro Ladder for Tonight

  • Tyler Herro Over 21.5 Points (-105)
  • Tyler Herro 25+ Points / Heat ML (+465)
  • Tyler Herro 30+ Points + Heat ML (+900)
