Trail Blazers vs Heat NBA Preview
The Blazers are riding high after upsetting the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, while the Heat — who will be back in Miami — have the rest disadvantage after an 18-point win over the Hornets at home last night.
Portland enters on the back of a 5-3 mark and has covered in six of eight contests, giving them a tie for the third-best against-the-spread tally in the NBA.
The Heat, at 6-3 ATS and 5-4 in general, aren't far behind.
We have more injury notes in this one, though.
For Portland, Scoot Henderson (hamstring), Damian Lillard (Achilles), Matisse Thybulle (thumb) and Blake Wesley (foot) are out. Shaedon Sharpe is day-to-day (calf) and listed as probable.
Though just last night, Collin Sexton sat out after initially being probable to play, later downgraded to doubtful over the course of the day. In today's NBA, probable is not a guarantee either.
On the Heat side, Tyler Herro (foot) and Terry Rozier (feds) remain out.
Bam Adebayo has a sprained toe and was immediately declared out for Friday's game upon the results of Thursday's MRI, but his status for Saturday has yet to be confirmed as of this writing. Given that the Heat are +3.5, he's not expected to suit up, though he's listed officially as day-to-day.
Additionally, Jaime Jaquez and Norman Powell both rolled their ankles in the game and are listed day-to-day. Powell's happened in the first half but returned to start and play the second.
Trail Blazers vs Heat Prediction, Betting Analysis
I don't like betting on players like this, but when they pop, they pop. I'm not expecting Adebayo back so soon, and even with a 126-108 win, the Heat were outrebounded by the Hornets 57-37 last night. Even Tre Mann nearly had 10 boards.
I like Donovan Clingan, maddeningly inconsistent as he may be, for his Over 8.5 rebounds. He's only over three times this season, but the overs are 10, 14 and 15, respectively.
Clingan has a path to smashing this if he can stay on the floor. The Heat are eighth in most rebounds allowed per 100 possessions, and even with Bam, they're a team you can board on.
Now, without him, you're playing one true center, the inconsistent yet ultra-talented Kel'el Ware. Otherwise, you're other backup center options are Nikola Jovic — who is actually a small forward — and Vlad Goldin, who is on a two-way deal and looked rough in preseason.
I also sprinkled on 12 or more boards and a double-double at +260 and +290 — both on FanDuel, respectively.
Additionally, I might play the Heat moneyline if we get good news about Jaquez and Powell.
Trail Blazers vs Heat Best Bets
- Donovan Clingan Over 8.5 Rebounds (-135)
- Sprinkle on Donovan Clingan 12+ boards (+260), Double-Double (+290)
