Spurs vs Nuggets NBA Preview
The Nuggets and Spurs are set to meet for the third time this season on Saturday, and the season series is tied at 1-1.
Victor Wembanyama missed the last two pairings between these two teams, but now he's healthy and playing some of his best basketball.
Wemby is expected to return to the starting lineup after taking a one-game break against the Clippers for right ankle injury management. He scored 41 points against the Warriors in his latest outing and now has a chance to go toe-to-toe with another MVP-caliber center.
Wembanyama's averages of 25.4 points and 4.0 assists per game against Nikola Jokic are right around his career norm, but he's snaring an impressive 14.7 rebounds per contest in head-to-head matchups. The Serbian has gotten the best of him lately, though.
Jokic has scored more than 40 points in three of his six NBA encounters with the young Frenchman. The Spurs' defensive anchor hasn't figured out how to slow down the Serbian veteran, who is well on his way to averaging a triple-double for a second consecutive season.
This battle between bigs seems poised to produce some major stat lines, and that makes the player prop market especially interesting ahead of tipoff. Bettors should keep a close eye on combo options for each team's franchise centerpiece.
Peyton Watson (hamstring), Spencer Jones (hamstring) and Zeke Nnaji (hip) have been ruled out for Denver, while Tim Hardaway Jr. (knee) is listed as probable.
Spurs vs Nuggets Predictions, Betting Analysis
Wemby has to prove that he has an answer for Jokic.
Jokic has never scored fewer than 31 points against the Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner, and boasts a career average of 36.8 points when matched up with him so far.
Assists might be harder to come by because the Spurs have other gifted defenders, but rebounding excellence is a given for Jokic, who averages 12.9 rebounds per game and has hauled in at least 14 rebounds in six straight outings.
This game could go either way, but Jokic will almost certainly be extremely impactful as a do-it-all contributor who stuffs the stat sheet.
Pick: Nikola Jokic Over 40.5 Points & Rebounds (-112)
