Betting Brunch: Big Over/Under Movement and Corresponding Buyback
Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports
Over the past hour, there has been some very interesting movement on a college basketball total that is sure to spark some lively conversation at your brunch table.
The game is located in the Steel City, with Wake Forest visiting Pittsburgh in an ACC showdown—if you can call it that. Pittsburgh boasts an impressive 0-15 record in conference play, while Wake Forest is gunning hard for the basement at 3-12.
With two garbage teams facing off against one another, spread bettors are taking their chances with Pittsburgh as a 9-point home dog. The total has seen much more interesting action, though.
With oddsmakers setting the line at 144/144.5 across the market, bettors set their eyes on the under—both sharp and public bettors, that is. More than 80% of tickets are on the under, as well as a steam move triggered on the under at 144.5, which caused the total to drop to between 141.5 and 142.5, depending on the book.
However, after hitting 141.5 at Pinnacle, sharp bettors quickly triggered a reverse line move to drive the line back to 142.5. It remains at 141.5 at a number of other offshore sites, but remember…it's only brunch time. With this game not tipping off until 9 p.m. ET, we could see some more buyback if sharps believe there is a good opportunity for a potential middle. Then again, we could see bettors continue to pile on the under and push it towards the 130s. Certainly a line you'll want to keep your eye on as the day progresses.
