Boise State Broncos Betting Preview
In a new era for Boise State after just joining a re-born Pac-12 conference under third-year HC Spencer Danielson, the Broncos have prevailed in two of their first three games following a heartbreaking loss to top-five ranked Oregon in Week 1.
Senior quarterback Maddux Madsen is off to a great start in his third season under center, with the 22-year-old throwing for 610 yards and six touchdowns without tossing an interception.
The Broncos' backfield features a ton of depth with junior RB Dylan Riley leading the charge. He's already rushed for a whopping 454 yards on the ground, which ranks third in the country.
Boise’s RB2 Sire Gaines is off to a great start as well, rushing for 234 yards so far this season.
Danielson’s offense is particularly rush-heavy, as the Broncos' receiving corps brought a ton of uncertainty into the season. However, true freshman wideout Rasean Jones has made an immediate impact, hauling in 15 passes for 232 yards.
Jones boasts a ton of athleticism and has emerged as the Broncos’ definitive WR1. He's also taken a ton of pressure off of Boise State’s rushing attack since defenses must be wary of the speedster finding open space downfield.
While Boise’s offense looked pretty solid, it's the Broncos' defense that anchors the team, with edge rusher Jayden Virgin-Morgan and senior Max Stege both leading an elite pass rush that also features senior tackle David Latu.
That said, Danielson’s highly-touted defensive unit hasn't quite lived up to the hype over the first three games, allowing nearly 26 points per game. That makes Saturday’s matchup versus Western Michigan a prime opportunity to make a statement on the road.
Western Michigan Broncos Betting Preview
It's been a whirlwind of a start for Western Michigan this season, as it started with a devastating one-point loss to Michigan in its opener.
After taking a five-point lead with just over a minute to play, Western Michigan threw the game away with a 50-yard Hail Mary delivered from Michigan's Bryce Underwood as time expired.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, the Broncos have looked very impressive, winning each of their last two games by a scoring margin of 16 points on average.
Western Michigan QB Broc Lowry is off to a great start after winning the MAC Offensive Player of the Year award last season.
Lowry is an electric dual-threat QB who's rushed for a shocking 963 yards on the ground — along with 14 rushing touchdowns — in 2025.
Though Lowry has taken a sizable leap back statistically over Western Michigan’s first few games this season, the Broncos' junior is remarkably versatile and a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.
In addition to Lowry, Western Michigan returns its leading rusher from 2025 in. Jalen Buckley. He's already scored four touchdowns this season.
The Broncos boast an elite offensive line that returned preseason All-American tackle Chad Schuster, amongst several other upperclassmen who all retained their starting positions from last year’s exceptional 10-win season.
Western Michigan head coach Lance Taylor is an offensive specialist who previously served as Louisville’s offensive coordinator.
Though his rushing attack has been very effective thus far, the Broncos will require a far better passing game from their veteran QB if they're to take down a team of Boise State’s caliber.
On the defensive side of the ball, Taylor’s bunch was forced to replace its entire dominant front four led by 2025's MAC pass-rush leader in DE Nadame Tucker, who recorded 14 sacks last season.
The significant turnover on defense has been quite evident thus far.
Moreover, the Broncos' linebacker group has actually been very effective this season, with the likes of Justyce Betts, Dillon Moore, and Domanick Moon all currently sitting as the team’s top three tacklers.
Boise State vs Western Michigan Pick, Betting Analysis
While I've been very impressed with Western Michigan’s offense over the first three games of the season, I still have some concern about its passing attack, as Lowry has been far more efficient as a rushing QB thus far.
For even more cause for concern, Boise State will be the toughest challenge to date for this Western Michigan defense, which has yet to be tested by an offense that plays at such a high tempo.
I heavily favor Boise in the “battle of the Broncos”, and thus I'm very confident backing the road favorite to win by at least a touchdown.
