Florida A&M Rattlers Betting Preview: Red Flags All Over
A recent video following Florida A&M's 31-13 loss to SC State surfaced, showing the supposed Rattlers in the locker room after the game.
Aside from what the players were saying, it appeared FAMU was the size and in the shape of your local high school JV team.
Turns out, it was the local high school team for Florida A&M's Developmental and Research K-12 school. But it had the internet fooled.
While FAMU's roster isn't as small as the high school depicted, it's not much bigger or badder in real life.
The 31-13 final didn't fully paint how lopsided that SC State matchup was, as FAMU QB Isaiah Knowles (a Navy transfer) completed just 7-of-22 passes for 96 yards — 72% of which went to 5-foot-10, 165-pound senior Kieren Jackson (69 yards).
As a team, FAMU rushed for precisely zero yards on 30 attempts and just two sacks counted against the total.
It was utter domination by SC State, despite the 113 yards in penalties accrued and 1-for-8 conversion on third down.
FAMU's Week 0 win came in a 20-7 rock fight with Division II Albany State; the Rattlers managed just 70 rushing yards at 2.2 yards per carry.
Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview: Head of Steam
Miami entered 2026 with serious National Championship aspirations and its 45-6 trouncing of Stanford on the road just reinforced that notion. Malachi Toney erupted for 234 yards and a trio of touchdown receptions on just 12 receptions.
Darian Mensah totaled 400 passing yards and five touchdowns, finding his favorite target at Duke, Cooper Barkate, for a score. Both Mensah and Toney looked the part for the Heisman Trophy conversation early on — the duo was downright unstoppable.
If there was one bone to pick, it's that the Hurricanes' offensive line is certainly missing its quartet of NFL-bound linemen, two of which went in Round 1.
Miami generated about the same number of line yards as Stanford did in the game on a per-carry basis — Stanford was missing four starters — and RB Mark Fletcher only took 13 carries for 40 yards (long of 10).
But with Mensah and Toney firing on every available cylinder, the lack of ground production isn't nearly as concerning.
There's also serious talent and production needed to be replaced up front. Though All-ACC DT Ahmad Moten Sr. returns, losing two first-round pass rushers showed up in this game. Stanford QB Davis Warren was pressured just seven total times and only took one sack.
The Hurricanes' secondary took control (but lost OJ Frederique for a while in the process) and held the Cardinal to just 5-of-15 on third down and 0-2 on scoring red zone touchdowns (they kicked two field goals).
While that defensive front gets acclimated and the offensive line meshes, Miami has time. It won't face a serious talent threat until at least Week 5 (at Clemson), but we saw how that went against LSU.
Florida A&M vs Miami Pick, Betting Analysis
Miami opened as a massive -49.5 favorite at FanDuel and that's climbed to as high as -55.5.
It's tied for the highest spread on the board (Howard at Indiana) and should be the biggest delta in roster talent on the Week 2 slate. And for whatever reason, this is our lone FBS game to go against the NFL's opening Thursday Night Football.
The last time Miami hosted FAMU was 2024, when it cruised to a 56-9 victory. Cam Ward and the Hurricanes got a slow start, leading 25-3 at halftime in what could only be explained as a hangover half after beating rival Florida on the road, 41-17.
So far this season, power conference teams haven't been kind to lower FCS foes. In Week 1, Thursday night's P4-versus-FCS games ended with an average 50.3-point margin and 73.3 points scored.
Scores throughout last weekend didn't deviate far:
This might be the biggest line of scrimmage mismatch we'll see all season. FAMU's inability to get a push or gain yards on the ground against a Division II foe is seriously concerning.
To rush 30 times for zero yards is alarming. Now this hapless offensive front goes against a lineup like Miami's.
On the other side, FAMU's defense is just as porous, allowing SC State RB Mason Pickett-Hicks to rush for over 200 yards at 12.4 yards per carry.
I don't expect a slow start out of the gate Thursday night. This has Flash Fry written all over it. I'm betting this game two ways:
- Miami 1H -31.5
- Over 60.5 points
I expect Mensah and Toney to continue building a Heisman campaign in the first half before the reserves come in during the third quarter.
I also expect Miami's twos and threes to still move the ball and get the running backs involved.
The Canes should cover most, if not all, of the number themselves.
