Head coach Brian Kelly built on the momentum of his first season at LSU with another strong campaign in 2023. The Tigers went 10-3 overall with a 6-2 mark in SEC play to finish ranked No. 13 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Notable matchups for LSU include the season opener vs. USC and SEC contests against Alabama and Ole Miss.

The goal in Year 3 of the Kelly era is to qualify for the newly expanded CFP field that’s now at 12 teams. In order to do so, LSU will have to revitalize its defense and put together a respectable running game to open up even more space for its dynamic passing attack.

Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels is now in the NFL. However, new play caller Joe Sloan will strive to maximize the talents of traditional pocket style quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. If that happens, the Tigers will still be a terror for opposing defenses.

Kelly cleaned house defensively, firing coordinator Matt House and his assistants after last season’s subpar showing. Linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. is the lynchpin of new coordinator Blake Baker’s revised scheme.

If LSU plays to its potential, they should be solidly in the mix for the SEC crown.
