Florida State vs Alabama College Football Preview
Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview: As Bad As It Gets
After underwhelming in the first half against New Mexico State, Florida State’s struggles on offense came back to haunt it against SMU, losing to the Mustangs 27-24. Ashton Daniels was abysmal in the pocket, throwing for just 125 yards while completing 52% of his passes.
It's worth noting that Daniels was more productive on the ground, rushing for 71 yards while averaging 4.4 yards per carry.
Still, his inability to connect with his pass catchers makes the Seminoles' offense far too anemic to compete with the top of the ACC. Their offense has plummeted to the bottom half of the board in success rate.
On the other side of the ball, the Seminoles have also been unable to find their footing on defense, kicking off their year ranked 116th in defensive success rate and 123rd in explosiveness.
When their back end is unable to create a disruption, they're vulnerable to giving up an explosive play.
With Florida State struggling to hold its opponents out of scoring position, it's forced to play in high-variance contests while lacking the talent on offense that's needed to keep pace.
With Alabama on deck, expect the Seminoles to find themselves quickly behind on the scoreboard, potentially resulting in a lopsided affair.

Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Preview: Defense Saving Their Bacon
Heading into the year, Alabama was expected to take a step back after failing to use the transfer portal to retool its offensive line and running back room.
While a 2-0 start looks encouraging on paper, the cracks in the Crimson Tide's armor have already started to show, as they rank outside the top 100 in offensive explosiveness and havoc allowed.
Keelon Russell’s sporadic play under center has made it difficult for their offense to get into a groove, as he threw two interceptions in his first game against an FBS opponent.
His inconsistencies also leave them vulnerable to stalling out early in drives. He leads an offense that ranks 91st in Pass PPA and 113th in Pass Explosiveness.
While their ground game has been able to exceed expectations two games into the year, negative regression will rear its ugly head once their quality of opponent ramps up and they face a defensive line that can collapse their pocket at a consistent rate.
This will affect Daniel Hill’s ability to generate yards after contact, forcing them to rely more heavily on Russell’s underwhelming arm.
Fortunately for the Crimson Tide, their defense will be able to mask their regression on offense. They field a group that ranks well above league average in defensive success rate, EPA, explosiveness and havoc.
Their ability to generate pressure with just their defensive line allows them to anchor their linebackers in coverage to help cover more ground at various levels of the field, leading to a heavy volume of disruptions.

Florida State vs Alabama Pick, Betting Analysis
In a favorable matchup against Florida State, expect the Crimson Tide to build on their momentum by neutralizing Daniels, who's incapable of picking apart their gaps in coverage.
That's especially true with their linebackers spread out across the middle, making it easier to spy the Seminoles' quarterback and crash down on the outside before he's able to reach the open field.
With each scramble resulting in either a tackle for loss or a minimal gain, the Seminoles will find themselves comfortably behind the line to gain on later downs, lowering their probability of converting.
Even with the Crimson Tide secondary giving up explosive plays at a high rate, Daniels will struggle to exploit it while scrambling away from their pressure, resulting in a hard stop early on in their drive.
When on defense, the Seminoles will be hard-pressed in their efforts to get Alabama off the field. They field a front seven that's incapable of stopping the run, per their below-league-average marks in defensive rush success rate and PPA.
By allowing the Crimson Tide to methodically move the ball down the field, they'll be able to keep the clock running while simultaneously chipping away at Florida State’s total number of possessions on offense.
With fewer opportunities to get inside the 40, the Seminoles will struggle to put up points on the board, drastically improving the likelihood they're held under their team total of 14.5.
If their team total crosses through the key number of 14, reduce the size of your wager or wait to see if it steams back up before kickoff.
Pick: Florida State Team Total Under 14.5
