Middle Tennessee vs Marshall Pick, Betting Analysis

We can't take much away from both of these teams' opening games of the 2026 season.

For Middle Tennessee, it dominated Murray State en route to a 38-14 victory. While the Blue Raiders only led 21-7 at the break and didn't completely open up the game until the fourth quarter, this was pretty much a tune-up affair.

On the flip side, Marshall was playing in over its head in a 45-0 loss to No. 18 Penn State. It's not promising that the Herd didn't score a single point (and that Carlos Del Rio-Wilson only tossed 102 yards), but that's the toughest competition they'll face all season long.

Ultimately, the pick for this duel is on Middle Tennessee to cover the spread, according to our very own Evan Abrams' Bet Labs Sports Insights system.

The system — called "Scoring Streak Bad" is 334-240-10 overall since its inception with a 13% return on investment.

This is a fade system. Public perception inflates lines for teams coming off strong offensive performances. This system fades home favorites on short scoring streaks (0-9 points) where recency bias overstates offensive momentum against potentially tougher opponents.

In college football, home favorites coming off a low-scoring performance can often be overvalued by the market. When a team has scored fewer than 10 points in its most recent game, public perception and recency bias can distort expectations, assuming a quick rebound in front of the home crowd.

Yet these situations frequently signal deeper offensive challenges or upcoming matchups against tougher defenses.

By fading the home favorite and taking the opposite side, bettors can capitalize on inflated lines where momentum is overstated and the underdog holds more value than the market recognizes

Pick: Middle Tennessee +13.5
