LSU vs Auburn College Football Preview
LSU Tigers Betting Preview: Must-Win Spot Before Gauntlet
LSU enters its Week 8 matchup against Auburn with a ton of momentum after blasting a short-handed Mississippi State team by a score of 31-0.
Although quarterback Kamario Taylor was inactive for Mississippi State last weekend, LSU’s shutout victory should re-instill some confidence in head coach Lane Kiffin’s locker room following a tough road loss to Kentucky in Week 6.
LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt is off to a phenomenal start to his first season in Baton Rouge, already throwing for 1,785 yards with an 83.1 QBR — both of which rank 14th in all of college football.
While Leavitt’s 14 passing touchdowns have been quite impressive as well, the former Sun Devil has thrown a relatively concerning eight interceptions through the Tigers’ first seven contests.
Many deemed Kiffin’s Tigers a definitive National Championship contender heading into the season, but dropping two SEC games before Week 8 could prove to be fatal for LSU.
Saturday’s game is a clear must-win spot for both teams, but even more so for LSU, which must face the likes of Alabama, Texas and Tennessee following its matchup versus Auburn.
The keys to victory for LSU will be for Leavitt to minimize turnovers and to establish the run with sophomore tailback Dilin Jones.
Jones is poised for a breakout performance, as I expect Auburn’s defensive game plan to largely center around containing the Tigers elite passing game.
Given Auburn’s road upset over then-No. 1 Georgia last weekend, Kiffin will undoubtedly be looking to make a statement in Week 8 before facing a gauntlet of a remaining SEC schedule.
Auburn Tigers Betting Preview: Alex Golesh Era Starts Strong
It has been a whirlwind of a campaign for Auburn thus far.
In what really marked a new era for this program, first-year head coach Alex Golesh came in to take over the reins as Auburn's head coach following an abysmal three-year stretch under Hugh Freeze, who won just 15-of-34 games over that span.
Golesh gained a great reputation as a sharp offensive-minded coach after a very successful stint as head coach at South Florida. Much of that can be attributed to the phenomenal play from dual-threat quarterback Byrum Brown, who followed Golesh to Auburn.
The Tigers’ first-year head coach has done a stellar job installing an explosive veer-and-shoot offensive scheme, which is a far more modern spread offense that uses extreme receiver splits and a fast tempo to stress defenses both horizontally and vertically.
Despite Brown’s move to the SEC leading to some subpar play early in the season, the Tigers' QB is finally starting to find his groove in the pocket, currently posting a top-35 QBR of 71.5.
The former USF star has made much more of an impact on the ground, already racking up a whopping 460 rushing yards to go with five rushing touchdowns this season. His passing mechanics have improved substantially as well.
In Auburn’s spectacular upset victory in Athens last weekend, Brown threw for over 150 yards and a touchdown while also racking up 115 yards on the ground. He has now scored a rushing touchdown in five of the team’s first six contests.
To knock off the Tigers, Golesh’s bunch will surely need another huge offensive performance from its superstar dual-threat quarterback.

LSU vs Auburn Pick, Betting Analysis
We're in for a spectacular SEC showdown on Saturday afternoon featuring two teams with everything to play for before they enter the heart of a remarkably difficult conference schedule.
From a betting perspective, I favor taking a more unique approach to extract value from this game. The spread gives me slight cause for concern because it could be a potential letdown spot for Auburn following its biggest win of the season.
For my primary handicap, I feel confident that both Tiger squads will score at least 20 points on Saturday afternoon, which is currently available at -117 at DraftKings.
Pick: Both Teams to Score 20+ Points (-117)
