Toledo vs Washington State Preview
Toledo Rockets Betting Preview: Need to Refuel
This season can only be considered a disappointment for Toledo, as the Rockets are buried in the middle of the MAC standings and would now need help to make the trip to Detroit in December.
This is the result of two straight-up losses as double-digit favorites.
The first one was excusable as the Rockets were on the road against a tough, hard-nosed Western Michigan team that has turned out to have a premier MAC defense.
But losing to Bowling Green as 10-point favorites after holding a 21-0 lead was indefensible. Jason Candle-coached Toledo teams have lost more games outright as heavy favorites than any other team in the country during his tenure.
This situation is all about how Toledo shows up, as this team is more talented than Washington State, but the spot is unique in that the Rockets have a long trip to the West Coast right in the middle of their conference schedule.
The Rockets were able to get their heads on straight in the second half against Kent State and could go on a bit of a run here to finish their season strong.
This Toledo defense is still a premier unit in the MAC with excellent coverage grades, while the front seven is allowing just 2.5 yards per carry.
The Rockets can provide pressure to opposing quarterbacks and have found their way into the backfield for 44 tackles for loss this season.
The secondary is elite, allowing just 140 passing yards per game.
I expect Washington State to struggle to move the ball.
Washington State Cougars Betting Preview: Returning Home
Wazzu has been very impressive with back-to-back ATS wins in challenging Power Conference road environments.
The Cougars easily covered as 33-point underdogs in a three-point loss against Ole Miss and followed that up by completely dominating Virginia for long stretches before falling just short.
These efforts were impressive given the travel and quarterback turmoil, but the Cougars have been playing much better since inserting Zevi Eckhaus as the starting quarterback.
Defensively, this Washington State group is not as talented as in prior seasons, but the team has played with cohesiveness in the last couple of games.
The run defense did well to quarantine both Virginia and Ole Miss, and the Cougars should be able to provide some resistance against Toledo's rushing attack.
I would expect this defense to show up on Saturday at home, where the Coogs haven’t played in a month.

Toledo vs Washington State Pick, Betting Analysis
I think we will get a great game here and a spirited effort by both teams.
This line has bounced around, while the total has been bet down to 45.5.
I'm backing Toledo on the ML.
Toledo has an elite secondary, which grades out as the top in the MAC per PFF. This group ranks 11th nationally in EPA per Pass allowed and 32nd in Pass Success Rate allowed.
Eckhaus has thrown the ball well since being reinserted as the starting quarterback, but I cannot foresee the passing offense stringing together successful plays against this Toledo secondary.
The Coogs are only averaging 3.1 yards per carry on the ground this season, and the offensive line has struggled to open up holes for the running backs.
Wazzu ranks just 126th nationally in Rush Success Rate and 109th in Rush Explosiveness. The Coogs have had only five rushing plays all season longer than 20 yards, and we cannot count on this group breaking off chunk plays on the ground against the Rockets' defense, which ranks 27th in Rush Explosiveness allowed.
Toledo has the more dominant offensive line and the better quarterback in Tucker Gleason. I trust this team to avoid an apathetic letdown spot here on the road, and I expect the Rockets to run the ball a ton here and wear down the Washington State front, which has struggled in the second half of games this season.
This should be a low-scoring game with minimal excitement, and we could see some adverse weather that will affect scoring.
I trust the Toledo defense to lock in, and the offensive line will generate push in the run game. Go Rockets!
Pick: Toledo ML (-120, bet365)
