Enter the Underdog promo code TOPACTION at sign-up, play $10, and get a $50 bonus for Thursday Night Football. Panthers vs. Packers kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Oct. 29, streaming on Prime Video from Lambeau Field. Carolina (3-3) leads the NFC South, and Green Bay (4-3) sits last in the NFC North.
Both enter NFL Week 8 off losses: the Panthers fell 43-13 to Tampa Bay, and the Packers lost 20-17 in Detroit. Green Bay stalled on three of four red-zone trips in that loss and went 1-for-3 on field goals. The forecast calls for mostly clear skies and temperatures near 56 degrees, so weather should not decide this one. Green Bay is a 3.5-point home favorite in the Panthers-Packers odds. The total sits near 47 points. Carolina won 16-13 at Lambeau last season, yet Green Bay has won three of the last four meetings.
My Panthers vs. Packers prediction calls for a tight game with three "More than" picks on Underdog. Those picks target Chuba Hubbard of Carolina, along with Josh Jacobs and Christian Watson from Green Bay. Panthers vs. Packers Prediction: 3 Underdog Pick'em Picks
I’m building three more-than picks around a tight game and a Carolina defense that ranks last against the run. Green Bay is a 3.5-point home favorite with a total near 47, suggesting a close, low-scoring night. Both teams limp in off losses, so I expect each side to lean on the ground game and short throws. Each pick targets a player with a clear path to production against these defenses. Below, I break down the numbers behind Josh Jacobs, Chuba Hubbard, and Christian Watson.
Josh Jacobs: More Than 80.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards
Josh Jacobs looked healthy in his return at Detroit. He touched the ball 16 times, rushing 11 times for 36 yards. He also caught five of seven targets for 55 yards and a touchdown. That totals 91 scrimmage yards in his first game of the season. This line needs only 81, so he can fall short of last week’s total and still cash.
Carolina ranks last in the NFL against the run, allowing 153.2 yards per game. The Panthers also give up 5.2 yards per carry. Tampa Bay ran for 258 yards on them last week. Jacobs ran 17 times for 87 yards and a score against Carolina last season. This matchup gives him plenty of room to work.
Green Bay is a 3.5-point home favorite, so I expect steady carries and checkdowns. Jacobs also catches passes, which gives him a second path to this number. MarShawn Lloyd had eight touches in Detroit, but Jacobs still handled the bulk of the work with 16. A close game keeps him on the field. I’m taking More than 80.5 rushing + receiving yards for Jacobs.
Chuba Hubbard: More Than 0.5 Anytime Touchdowns
Chuba Hubbard has scored six touchdowns in six games for Carolina. That scoring pace makes 0.5 anytime touchdowns a low bar. Green Bay has allowed 10 running-back touchdowns this season. Hubbard is Carolina’s lead back. That gives him a real path to his seventh score.
Hubbard touched the ball only 11 times in the 43-13 loss to Tampa Bay, his fewest of the season. He carried seven times for 60 yards. That light night helps on a short week. He also owns 15 of the 21 receptions by Panthers running backs. That receiving work gives him extra chances to reach the end zone.
Green Bay’s offense ranks 30th in red-zone touchdown rate and 28th on third down. Those numbers suggest a close game with few big drives. Green Bay’s last four games averaged just 35.5 combined points, so each Carolina trip inside the 20 matters. I expect Hubbard to see work near the goal line in that kind of game. I’m taking More than 0.5 anytime touchdowns for Hubbard.
Christian Watson: More Than 4.5 Receptions
Christian Watson led Green Bay in receiving yards last week, catching five of eight targets for 57 yards. His longest catch went for 28 yards and moved the Packers into the red zone. Five catches clear this line of 4.5. Jordan Love threw 45 passes in that loss, so the volume is there. Watson’s eight targets show that Love looks his way often.
Matthew Golden, who saw 12 targets in Detroit, is questionable with a shoulder and foot injury. If Golden sits or plays limited snaps, more targets should flow to Watson. Watson also has six touchdowns in seven games, which shows Love trusts him in big spots. Tucker Kraft caught four passes for 48 yards and a score last week, but Watson still led the team in yards.
The risk is real: he caught only two passes against Carolina last season. That game was a 16-13 loss in which he saw four targets. Even so, this offense threw 45 times last week and looks pass-heavy right now. I’m taking More than 4.5 receptions for Watson.
Those three plays make up my Panthers vs. Packers prediction for Thursday night. If you like our content and picks, sign up on Underdog to claim the bonus and start playing.
