Chiefs Moneyline

After dropping their first two games of the season, the Chiefs have gotten back on track as they enter this Monday night matchup as winners of two straight.

Despite an injury-riddled receiving corps, Patrick Mahomes had a big bounce-back performance against the Ravens and he should keep the momentum going against a Jacksonville defense whose numbers are inflated.

While you have to give the Jags credit for entering this game 3-1, they have played the Panthers, the Bengals (without Joe Burrow for most of the game), the Texans and a banged-up 49ers squad. So, their rank of sixth in yards per pass and opponent completion percentage has been compiled without a true test.

One major red flag for the Jaguars' defense is they rank 26th in sack rate while the Chiefs rank ninth in sack rate allowed. Mahomes should have little pressure, which will help him expose Jacksonville's secondary.

On the other side of the ball, the Jags have not looked that great against their soft schedule. The passing attack is abysmal as Trevor Lawrence ranks 31st in completion percentage and 28th in yards per pass.

In tonight's game, the team that has more success through the air is likely to wind up on top when the clock runs out, but let's dive into the issue with the Jaguars' rushing attack in the second leg of my parlay.

Travis Etienne Under 63.5 Rushing Yards

As mentioned above, Jacksonville's passing attack has not been great, but fortunately for them, running back Travis Etienne has been.

Etienne comes in averaging six yards per carry and has seen a sizable workload this season, averaging 16.3 rushing attempts per game.

However, he has a few things working against him in this matchup.

The first is a potential trailing game script. If the Jags are behind in this one, like expected, they'll need to throw the ball more in an effort to play catch-up.

Secondly, this matchup is not as good as it looks on paper.

Yes, the Chiefs are 22nd in rushing yards allowed, but that has been inflated by chunk plays from rushers other than opposing running backs, such as Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson.

The Chiefs rank 10th in tackles for loss per game, indicating they are generating a strong push up front and penetrating on rushing attempts against them.

If we see a decline in volume, Etienne could stay under this total tonight.
