The New York Islanders are hoping a change of scenery will bring a different result when they host the Carolina Hurricanes for Game 3 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series on Friday.

This will be the Islanders' first home playoff game since moving into UBS Arena in November 2021.

New York dropped the first two games against the Hurricanes, but can take solace in the knowledge that Carolina lost all six of its road games in the 2022 postseason.

Here's the latest on both teams, and your best bet for Hurricanes vs. Islanders Game 3.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes became the first team in this year's playoffs to take a two-game series lead. They outshot the Islanders in both games and won the special teams battle, going 3-for-10 on the power play overall.

Perhaps most surprisingly, Carolina netminder Antti Raanta has outperformed the highly touted Ilya Sorokin. Raanta is at 1.2 goals saved above expected through two games, while Sorokin is at minus 0.2.

After putting up a 2-1 win in Game 1, the Hurricanes prevailed narrowly in overtime in Game 2 after a controversial non-call on a high stick just before the winning goal was scored.

A win's a win, but scoring wingers Max Pacioretty and Andrei Svechnikov are already on the shelf due to injuries and the Hurricanes' forward depth was depleted again Wednesday as Teuvo Teravainen suffered a broken hand.

New York Islanders

Though they're in a hole, the Islanders were close to evening the series Wednesday. They controlled 65.22% of the expected goals and their fans are pointing at that non-call in overtime as the reason for their demise.

There's lots to like here. Mathew Barzal scored his first goal in more than two months in his second game back from a lower-body injury, and seems to be playing at full capacity.

The Islanders are known to get a boost from their passionate fans, especially in the playoffs. It's also important to note they were 25-13-3 at home during the regular season. The atmosphere should be electric and that may be help the Islanders get rolling with the man advantage against a penalty kill that was second-best in the league in the regular season.

Sorokin should also raise his game when he gets back on home ice. He had a .911 save percentage on the road during the regular season, but that spiked to .935 at UBS Arena.

Hurricanes vs. Islanders Pick

Though the Hurricanes and the Islanders finished 20 points apart in the standings, there hasn't been a huge gap between these sides in the playoffs.

Expect that to continue, even as the scene shifts to Long Island.

If you're looking for a bet with a bit of juice behind it, consider taking the regulation tie, which is available at +320 on FanDuel.

For an outright winner, the home side is slightly favored, despite trailing 2-0 in the series.

Given the Hurricanes' Jekyll-and-Hyde shifts in their home-and-away performances, it makes sense to stick with the home team for a Game 3 win.

Pick: Islanders Moneyline | Play to -125
