Kenny Ducey's Alcaraz vs Sinner Preview, Prediction
Carlos Alcaraz Betting Preview
Carlos Alcaraz is coming off what is surely his best match of the tournament.
He faced a big server for a third time in four matches — this time arguably the most dangerous hitter outside of Sunday's finalists in Taylor Fritz — and passed the test with flying colors.
Alcaraz's own serve was pretty damn reliable. He won 88% of points behind it, serving at an excellent 65% clip relative to his season numbers, and he managed to face just two break points against a player who had been returning magnificently all tournament.
The Spaniard hasn't exactly had the easiest road to this point, going five sets in the first round against Fabio Fognini and dropping a set in three of his last four.
While his road here has been filled with tricky opponents, this is the second-best player in the world, and to play only Cameron Norrie and a wild-card with ease is certainly disappointing.
Jannik Sinner Betting Preview
Jannik Sinner's story has become a bit more interesting in the last week.
He was injured in the first game of his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov when he fell and tweaked his elbow — an injury that was serious enough to spark rumors he wouldn't be able to suit up for the quarterfinals.
Well, after getting in a brief practice once his MRI came back clean, Sinner pretty much looked as good as he's looked all year against Ben Shelton. He's continued to serve well — even if he's not landing a ton of them — but the interesting thing is that both on the serve and forehand, he never lost any pace, even during the match where he was ailing.
That leads me to believe that match against Dimitrov was no fluke, and it illustrated how a big server who can play cleanly from the baseline can bother the World No. 1.
Now, he'll be up against a player with a larger serve than he's used to, and one with all-world speed.
Alcaraz vs Sinner Predictions, Betting Analysis
Alcaraz has bossed the recent head-to-head, and he's also won their last three matches at the Grand Slam stage. While it used to be a case of playing Alcaraz on the slower courts and Sinner on the faster ones, that hasn't exactly worked out in the last two years — even with the Italian's massive leap.
It's a hard match to call, which is why oddsmakers can't pick a favorite, but the two things worth reading into here are Alcaraz's semifinal win and Sinner's near-loss to Dimitrov.
While many blamed injury for the first two sets, the fact was that Dimitrov had an excellent read on the Sinner serve and was able to continue holding strong on his own serve.
We can say for certain that Alcaraz not only has a great read on Sinner's serve from their recent encounters, but also has a good read on even the biggest ones on tour after his win over Fritz. I was incredibly impressed by his ability to not only get into a lot of service games, but hold with ease against a player who began his tournament by returning the biggest serve ever recorded at this tournament.
Sinner was already the underdog in my eyes, and now he's playing with a slight knock. Alcaraz should continue being a matchup nightmare for a player who relies on hitting through his opponents, and while he may look sloppy at times — something that's become a theme for him — he should take the trophy for a third straight year.
Pick: Alcaraz Moneyline (-105)
