Elina Svitolina Preview

Elina Svitolina is a 31-year-old Ukrainian who's ranked ninth in the WTA. She's one of the best tennis players of her generation, as she was the world No. 1 in juniors.

Unfortunately, she hasn't climbed to the heights expected at the professional level. While she's third in the world, she hasn't won a Grand Slam yet.

Even so, Svitolina is in no way inferior to the great champions on the circuit. I don't know if she'll finally win a Grand Slam in the future, but anything is possible, considering that she's still evolving at an excellent pace.

Svitolina has had her career in two parts: before and after becoming a mother. Before, she was fighting on equal terms with Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza and Caroline Wozniacki, having many spectacular matches against them and relevant trophies won.

She married Gael Monfils, became a mother and her comeback could've been quite complicated. However, she quickly found her rhythm, and now she's back in the top 10, a feat in itself.

Moreover, in many moments, it seems to me that she's playing better than the past, serving stronger and hitting harder. These areas will help her on hard courts.

Last season was good for her, with quarterfinal berths at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, a title in Rouen and a semifinal appearance in Madrid.

The new season has been even more solid, starting with a trophy in Auckland and then a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open, where she lost to Sabalenka. She earned a trophy in Rome, a final in Dubai and a semifinal berth at Indian Wells, so it's been a very prolific year.

Last week, she played in Washington, where she lost in the quarters to Alexandra Eala. She's playing much better in Toronto though, beating Amanda Anisimova and Anastasia Potapova.

Even against Alexandrova, Svitolina was dominant, although she gave up a set. However, she won the next one 6-0. She's not the favorite against Swiatek, but she'll believe in her chances.

Iga Swiatek Preview

Swiatek is a 25-year-old Polish player who's ranked eighth in the WTA. She's one of the greatest champions in tennis history, with six Grand Slam trophies.

Clay is her favorite surface, with four titles at Roland Garros, but she also has a trophy at the US Open. Last year, she won Wimbledon, which was a pretty big surprise, especially when she beat Anisimova 6-0, 6-0.

It's clear that Swiatek is a huge talent and a player who can win major trophies in the future.

Unfortunately for her, the last two years have been complicated. The Wimbledon title in 2025 came by surprise because, at the time, she was playing poorly consistently.

I think the big problem was the collaboration with Wim Fissette, a coach who didn't suit her well. She recently broke ties with him, and now she's working with Francisco Roig.

Her great play as of late could be, in part, because of her new team, and in the future, that gives us confidence that Swiatek could lift major trophies and potentially become world No. 1 again.

She has a very aggressive game — so much so that at one point she was criticized for not knowing how to play defensively and for not being patient. Her playing style has a great advantage because she doesn't let her opponents have a long reaction time.

In addition, Swiatek is very smart, both on and off the court — which is an asset. The problems were psychological because she struggled with self-confidence. She's often been timid and lost on the court.

Although she has six Grand Slam trophies, she has remained fragile.

This season has been weak by her standards, as Swiatek doesn't have a single title up to this point. She hopes to change that this week, but Wednesday's opponent isn't an easy one, and a potential final with Naomi Osaka or Coco Gauff will be very complicated.

However, Swiatek has played arguably the best tennis so far in this tournament. She lost a set to Marta Kostyuk, but she came back incredibly and clearly dominated the rest of the match.

Against Shnaider, she was exceptional on the return, but also on serve, where she didn't offer a single break point.

She's the clear favorite on Wednesday.

Svitolina vs Swiatek Predictions, Betting Analysis

Svitolina is having an excellent year, with two trophies and three other semifinals. In Toronto, she's shown a good rhythm, easily passing Anisimova and Potapova while taking down Alexandrova despite losing a set.

She's mature and won't be intimidated by Swiatek in Wednesday's match. I think she'll play at least one good set.

Meanwhile, Swiatek is the most fit player in the tournament, playing amazing tennis across the last few matches. For example, against Shnaider, she didn't offer a single break point.

It seems that the new collaboration with Roig is helping her, and she can already think about a trophy at the US Open.

Her serve has been stable, too.

I think this will be a long match, so I'm expecting both players to win a set.
