Fire vs. Aces Preview, Prediction

The Las Vegas Aces are laying 11.5 points at home against the Portland Fire, with the total set at 179.5.

On paper, both teams are dealing with significant roster notes. Portland will be without guard Sarah Ashlee Barker, who was having a fantastic season for the Fire. Meanwhile, the Aces are down Kirsten Bell and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, leaving Las Vegas with a noticeably thin rotation — really only eight deep right now.

Because Barker was so key to what Portland does, laying double digits with Las Vegas seems reasonable on the surface. But when you dive into the stylistic matchup, the edge lies heavily with the favorites.

Portland’s offense relies heavily on transition play; they rank near the top of the league in points off turnovers. That style plays directly into Las Vegas’ strength. The Aces rarely turn the ball over and do not give up much in transition. If you force Portland to execute in a half-court set against an elite Aces defense anchored by A'ja Wilson protecting the rim, their offense simply stalls out.

The talent gap between these two teams remains vast. When evaluating a heavy spread, you always have to ask: How does this bet lose? The primary threat is a letdown spot where the Aces come out sluggish in "vacation mode" — A'ja Wilson still mentally on All-Star break, taking an expansion team lightly.

However, Las Vegas is a championship-caliber roster filled with professionals. They’ll take care of business on their home floor.

Best Bet: Las Vegas Aces -11.5
