Today, we will take the NRFI In the second game of a doubleheader between two National League teams: the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets.

In 19 first-inning batters this season, New York’s Taijuan Walker has allowed just four hits paired with two walks. Since the 2021 season, Walker is 26-7 to the NRFI.

His true NRFI potential comes at home, where is a perfect 23-0 across three teams since 2019. Specifically, Walker is 2-0 to the NRFI against the Cardinals since 2018.

Here’s how some of the key Cardinals hitters have fared against Walker:

  • Albert Pujols: 3-for-13
  • Paul Goldschmidt: 0-for-3
  • Nolan Arenado: 4-for-15
  • Tommy Edman: 0-for-3

In the last seven days, Edman, Arenado and Dylan Carlson — the Cardinals’ No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 hitters — have gone a combined 15-for-70, good for a .213 average.

On the other side, Steven Matz is proving to be a standout NRFI pitcher in 2022, going 6-1 in the first frame. We should see a motivated Matz today, as he will face his former team.

Since 2019, Matz has an impressive road NRFI split of 17-4. In 31 first-inning batters this yea,r Matz has walked only two batters.

Here’s how Matz has fared against some of the notable Mets hitters:

Brandon Nimmo: 2-for-5
Starling Marte: 1-for-14
Francisco Lindor: 2-for-8

In the last seven days, Lindor is just 4-for-21 (.190) and is projected to bat second today.

Look for Walker to remain perfect at home and the fatigue to set in the second game of the doubleheader. Take the NRFI between the Cardinals and Mets.

As always, six outs to glory…
