As the fourth starter in a dominant rotation featuring Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta, it’s easy to be overlooked. That’s the case with Adrian Houser, who is coming off a very productive 2021 campaign. The right-hander pitched to a 3.22 ERA in 142 1/3 innings last season.

His strikeout numbers were underwhelming, registering only 102. However, we’re dealing with a very low total here, and Houser punched out at least four hitters in half of his 26 starts last season. While he’s primarily a groundball pitcher, the matchup today should lend to some more swings and misses.

The Orioles trot out one of the worst lineups in baseball, and project to be one of the more strikeout-prone teams. Already with 37 strikeouts in their first three games, and the 4th-worst ground ball rate, I expect some more swings and misses on Houser’s sinker.

Houser is a bit more built up than the average starter right now, having pitched six innings in his last spring training appearance. I have him eclipsing this low total, with my projections yielding 4.5 strikeouts.

Pick: Adrian Houser Over 3.5 Strikeouts (+134) | Bet to: +100
