San Diego Padres Betting Preview
This series comes at a critical time as the Padres and Dodgers are jockeying for position atop the NL West. While the Dodgers' pitching has shone through the first two games, it is the Padres' starter this afternoon who has an opportunity to salvage a game from this series.
San Diego is set to send veteran right-hander Yu Darvish to the mound. Darvish got a late start to the season, as this will only be his eighth start of the year, but he has begun to turn back the clock over his last three outings.
The 39-year-old has excelled at generating soft contact and has shown he can still rack up strikeouts, having recorded 18 strikeouts over his last three starts. Today, he faces a Dodger lineup that is very dangerous, but has often been plagued by strikeouts this season.
The Dodgers rank 24th in strikeout rate against right-handers over the last 30 days, while Darvish is above average in CSW and swinging strike rate on the season. So, while you may think Father Time is catching up to Darvish, he's the guy to back in this marquee matchup.

On the flip side of this matchup, the Dodgers will send Tyler Glasnow to the hill. Glasnow has flashed his elite arsenal in his 11 starts this season, but he's also had to work through fits with his command.
Glasnow's walk rate is at the second-highest rate of his career entering this start, and that trend is concerning against a hot Padres lineup. The Padres have not only hit righties well, but it's their plate discipline and ability to put the ball in play that have made them elite.
San Diego holds the third-highest zone contact rate and the second-best chase contact rate in the majors. They rarely swing and miss, whether the pitch is a strike or not, and while they do have a high chase rate themselves, Glasnow has not gotten many batters to chase as his chase rate sits in the first percentile.
Padres vs Dodgers Prediction, Betting Analysis
While the Padres were fortunate enough not to burn through their bullpen in Saturday's loss, they will still need some length in this outing from Darvish. He is heavily favored to complete five innings of work, and from what we've seen, that is a large enough window for him to eclipse his strikeout total in this matchup.
Darvish has recorded at least five strikeouts in four of his seven starts this season and has done so against lineups with much lower strikeout rates than the Dodgers. Capitalize on this great price and back Darvish this afternoon.
