Cardinals vs Rockies Projected Starting Pitchers
Cardinals vs Rockies MLB Betting Preview
It was rumored in early July that Erick Fedde was going to lose his rotation spot. He's stuck around for the moment, but Michael McGreevy's strong start on Monday might have been the final nail in the coffin.
This could be it for Fedde, and Coors Field will be a nice way to send him off.
Fedde has been pummeled for 20 earned runs over his last four starts. He had skated by with a mid-3.00s ERA for a couple months, despite ERA estimators well above 5.00.
Regression has finally come for him. Fedde ranks 13th percentile in average exit velocity and 23rd percentile in hard-hit rate. He has the second-lowest swinging strike rate and the fourth-lowest CSW% among 87 pitchers who have thrown at least 90 innings.
To top it all off, he has the highest BB% of his career.
The Rockies have struggled offensively in general, but they've taken advantage of their home venue lately.
Colorado ranks ninth in OPS and eighth in wOBA against righties at home since the start of May.
The lineup actually has some depth with Ezequiel Tovar and Michael Toglia back, along with Mickey Moniak in the mix. With Hunter Goodman and Jordan Beck breaking out, it's a pretty formidable group, particularly in the most friendly offensive environment in the league.
Cardinals vs Rockies Pick, Betting Analysis
Fedde has been a major fade candidate this season, and the regression monster has finally found him.
With the Rockies finally figuring out their offense at home, I'll continue to fade Fedde in what could be his last start in the Cardinals' rotation.
Give me Colorado to go over its low team total in the first five innings.
Pick: Rockies F5 Team Total Over 2.5 (-130)
Moneyline
I don't have a bet on the moneyline on this game.
Run Line (Spread)
Like the moneyline, I'm staying away from the run line in Tuesday's National League showdown.
Over/Under
While I don't have a bet on the full-game total, my best bet for this game is for the Rockies to go over their F5 team total. They've been playing well of late, and Fedde is the perfect pitcher to fade.
