Rays vs Orioles MLB Betting Preview
The Rays swept the Orioles last week and will look to do so again, this time in Baltimore.
Tampa Bay is the best team in the American League, and one of the reasons is Shane McClanahan.
McClanahan will draw the Memorial Day start, looking to improve upon his 2.82 ERA. You don't need to worry about regression, either, as his xERA is 3.43 and his FIP is 2.72. He's also one of the best in the league at limiting the long ball, posting a 0.40 HR/9.
You won't see a lot of homers from this Rays lineup. They have the third-fewest home runs this year, but they strike out just 18.7% of the time and have the fourth most steals.
Teams that lack raw hitting talent need to make up for it in other ways — and the Rays' insistence on putting the ball in play, bunting, and making teams play perfect defense can lead to wins.
That's not to say the Rays can't hit the occasional long ball. Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, and Yandy Diaz account for 29 of the team's 41 homers.
The Orioles split a day-night doubleheader with the Tigers. Now, they have about 17 hours to prepare for the best team in the AL.
Baltimore has some real issues in its rotation, and Kyle Bradish is the one who can solve some of them. It's been a real mixed bag for Bradish. He enters this outing with a 4.13 ERA, a 4.08 xERA, and a 4.03 FIP.
Is that bad? No. But his 1.51 WHIP and a 4.82 BB/9 are very concerning. The worst thing a pitcher can do against the Rays is put runners on base, and that's the biggest issue for Bradish.
Everyone knew this Orioles pitching staff had issues, which meant this lineup had to be top-10 in baseball. That isn't the case, particularly this month.
In May, the Orioles rank 15th in MLB with a 95 wRC+, a touch below their 102 on the season. They don't hit for average, hitting .234 this month, and they strike out a lot (25%), as well as have just 19 home runs.
Three of the top hitters in this Baltimore lineup have been terrible. Gunner Henderson has a 97 wRC+ this year and 79 in May with a 23% strikeout rate.
Taylor Ward hit well over .300 in March and April, but he's hitting .169 in May with a 30% strikeout rate. Lastly, Adley Rutschman is hitting .200 with a 77 wRC+.
Those are three of the top five hitters in Baltimore's order that are posting well below-average numbers for almost a month.
The only two hitters are Samuel Basallo, who has six homers, and Pete Alonso, who has a 144 wRC+. Things could trend upward, but that hasn't been the case for most of 2026.

Rays vs Orioles Pick, Betting Analysis
As for the betting pick, I'm rolling with the Rays as slight road favorites. McClanhan should contain a struggling Orioles lineup. If the Rays can remain patient against Bradish, he'll eventually lose the zone, and they can make him pay.
Pick: Rays ML (play to -160)
